Hi all, we have booked a trip to London for a week in early May, then heading to the Cheltenham area. In London we are staying at Abbey Wood c.c. Site, arriving from the North on the A1M.We are o.k. getting to Abbey Wood,it is the direction for the M40 from jun 2.M 25...
We plan going round to Jun.16 M40, on a week day around 11am.Anticlockwise looks the shortest.
Any advice wood be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Andy

That is the shortest route. you wouldn't go clockwise as its so much longer and you have the Dartford Crossing to get over, anticlockwise you'll be fine.

No reason to believe it should be ok. Thousands do it every day.
Not sure what tolls Assured refers to. I understood the only toll motorway was part of the M6 (apart from bridges)------------- Steve

Hi Andy, depends on your MPG and patience level, every time you traverse the Dartford Crossing you pay a fiscal toll, clockwise, the toll is patience, listen to the radio road news, don't go south in fog, toss a coin and Bon Chance :-) Regards, Bill, Ex-M25 ville, now Sth Yorks.

There is very little in it distance wise, well according to AutoRoute anyway! The toll is only a couple of quid so no reason not to take the northern route which includes a lot of 4 lane sections now. Don't know if I'm jinxed but every time I use the southern route I get delays.

Thank you all for your help .
Will listen to the traffic reports, and take it from there.
Thanks again, and all the best to you all,

Whichever way you choose will always be the wrong way especially if you're in a hurry.

I used the M25 regularly when I was working, and it can be very unpredictable at any time. I used all parts of it at various times, as I travelled all over as a service engineer. Dartford crossing can be crazy, but then so can the area around Heathrow/M4. Personally I think I would opt for the northern route, but avoid Dartford at rush hour, unless you like long queues.------------- Best Regards,
Colin
