You need a 40 ltr barrel with the side opening, and a ball cock adaptor from B&Q. But i have seen folk make there own barrel,25 ltr drum,painted black, drill hole in the end to fit the ball cock in, and a opening in the top to get your hand in the barrel,

Not really,as you need an inlet and outlet,easier to buy the 40 litre one,plenty of used aquarolls for sale,I bought a ballcock from B&Q and made my own mains water supply at a fraction of the cost of the commercial ones

As said above, not really as you need one opening for the pump and one for the mains adapter, so easier to get a used Aquaroll with the side opening.
If you don't have a mains adapter yet then this thread is worth a look at, although stock has possibly/probably all gone now in stores.
