I have just purchased a 1993 Bailey SE Avallon and I'm trying to find the correct tyre pressure. Does anybody know the pressure required or how I could find this.
wheel size and tyre size and type in full is required, ie after the tyre size there is a 2 digit load index number and probably a speed index letter following them.
IE, 175R13C 97x, 175/80R13 86x, similar numbers but different type tyres requiring different pressures for the same load
Pressure = (1048 x 65) / (730 x 2) = 46.7 psi
Edit: I'd be tempted to make it 50psi
Edit2: I assume it's got two tyres, not four.
Ignore the "dual 690kg", that's the maximum load when fitted side by side like a twin-wheel transit.
The "4912" means they were manufactured in week 49 of 2012 so not very old.
I don't calculate, I use the tyres pressure chart, so for 175R13C 97 at 1048kg that's 43psi.
As an aside, using max pressure and load to calculate a pressure for a lower load, always gives a higher than correct pressure, in this case would have given 47psi.
Near enough then in the absence of an accurate pressure but not correct, 47psi actually suiting 1120kg
Thanks for this info. When I picked the caravan up the pressure was 45psi and towed very well so both these figures are ball park with that. My confusion was when I looked at the owners manual this was quoting 33psi and my previous caravan was only 900kg and was quoted as 35psi.so thought this seemed very low.
I wanted to get this right as I'm planning my first long distance trip, in August, Leeds to Cornwall.
I was running our Elddis Hurricane gtx (1993 ish) at 56psi. This was according to a few formulae found on line. Mind you it used to dance and bounce a wee bit. Last week we had new tyres fitted and the lads at the shop told me to use 38psi. They are commercial 175r13c 8pr - when i mentioned the 56psi they were a bit surprised. Maybe if i was on outback truckers...so its now running 38psi and feels fine.
