I'm getting older, no surprise, we all are. I am fed up with winding steadies up and down. My grandson has donated his battery drill to me so I would like to know what I need to attach to the drill to achieve my latest lazy idea. I've seen others do it, spindly pipe with a socket or something on the business end. I think my steady nuts are 19mm. I know this is a dopey question, but please help 🙏
You can get just the attachment you need on ebay. I think most caravans use fairly standard sized steady nuts. I just googled "caravan steady winder" and loads came up. I've had mine for years and that's how I got it.
Just do a Google search for 12″ Caravan Leg Winding Extended 19 mm Socket. It just clamps into the drill chuck and there are plenty on the market at various prices.
Hi All, thank you for your very helpful replies. Got the socket thingy from the dreaded Amazon, used it on Saturday, steadies down in less than 5 minutes with no trace of sweat or even foul language. Well pleased. Downside was having just picked up the van to have various electrical faults repaired we went to our favourite site and pitched up. Steadies down in a flash. Electric hooked up, I turned on the fridge, working 👍, lights working 👍. Filled aquarol, fitted pump. Nothing. Tried spare (brand new), pump. Nothing. Long long story short, tech came to van this evening, tested everything. No idea why pump not working. Bring it in, not this week, we're busy! We're booked on site until the Tuesday after the Bank holiday, so bugger it, strip washes and carrying loads of water will keep me fit. Or kill me. Any ideas what's wrong?
yeah, more than likely your leisure battery has had it and given up the ghost! see if you can borrow a neighbours battery to check your van out. its a simple thing that often gets overlooked.
worth shot.....
I had a pump not working a few years ago. bought a new one only to find that didn't work either.
Googled and came across someone saying clean the pins on the caravan side where the pump plugs into. small piece of emery cloth and sprayed some electrical contact cleaner on.
Hay ho result.......

I had that problem years ago, it turned that I knocked the pump switch off which was at head hight as I was having a nap 😊
Tried cleaning etc, no joy. Good news is I've bought a yoke like the milk maids used to wear with a bucket on each end to fetch the water. I'm starting to get a humpty back tho.😁😁😁
