Just been down to the local dealer to look at fixed single bed layout caravans to save SWMBO having to undertake mountaineering excercises in the night to get to the loo by scaling my inert form
Found a new model Adria which has twin fixed single beds BUT they can be made into a single fixed double if desired.
This seems a much better arrangement and much more flexible! A double for the odd occasion when I'm in the good books and singles the rest of the time
We actually went there expecting to like the twin bedder in the Swift Challenger range best but were surprised that for various reasons we didn't.
I was thinking that our next van was very unlikely to be a Bailey given the Alu Tech and the problems with the original designs in the range which would have had streaks galore on the non door side of the van and because the front windows had no border would have resulted in streaks there to. That together with the lack of awning rail both sides of the van put us off.
The Adria whilst having the ideal bed arrangement had a shower and loo layout which really wouldn't have suited us. The Adria's front lounge was lovely too and the build quality was excellent, design innovative. On balance we have seen other vans which would be less of a compromise.

I have seen people have their main awning and a smaller one on the other side for storage and for adults sleeping in.
We have one on both sides of our van but won't ever use it tbh

Abroad in nice weather we like to have a shaded area to cook in away from the door so either use the Cadac and a gas bottle or a mains extension and the Teppenyaki grill around the other side of the van. The sunshade saves me getting my bald bits burned whilst doing the cooking.
This keeps cooking smells etc away from the awning side of the van where we eat or receive guests.
have you seen the adria like mine? Astella - huge beds, full size bathroom with seperate shower. Not everyones cup of tea given the front kitchen but we love the space.
Yes I think I've seen that one - if memory serves it is on quite a wide body though which if you are touring may be a slight downside.
Lovely practical layout the front kitchen and also there was a U shaped lounge if I remember rightly which was also very practical. At the time the tug we had would only tow 1500Kg - the present tow car will pull up to 2000Kgs
I have a 2009 ADORA 642UP that I love,it has the single bed arrangement but they can also be put together to make a double,middle/or either wall,loads of cupboard space,seperate shower etc.
It doesn't have two awning rails but a cheap gazebo will fix that problem,as long as the caravan site allows them.
Venture caravans have a video of one on u tube,but I don't know how to put it on here.
