I'm the proud new owner of a 3 birth sterckeman folding caravan. However, straight away an issue has arisen (or not given the problem). I'm struggling to erect single handed and wondered if anyone had any top tips?!

Is there a mod I could do to the struts that raise the sides or a simpler solution would be better still?

At this rate when holidaying as the only adult I will be harassing friendly campsite wardens or fellow campers to assist me!

Any suggestions/tips very welcome! 😊

We had the same problem with our Esterel when we first got it, and DH ended up putting new gas struts on it. It flew up after that!

I don't know if yours has cupboards at the top, but if it has try not to put too much in them as that can make it heavy to lift.

Thank you. No extra weight at the top that can be removed. I thought new struts might be the ultimate solution, although I'm not sure I'm ready to give up so easily just yet! 😉

If I do decide to upgrade them do you have any idea where I would source them and how much I might be looking at? 😊

I deal with some companies at work who make gas springs

http://www.camloc.com/buy-online

http://www.gas-springs.com

http://www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-struts

No idea how much they are though

I'm still trying to think of a witty comment!

I'm pretty sure that SGS Engineering (the last one in iestntfc post) was where DH got ours from. The lady he spoke to on the telephone was very knowledgeable, and had spoken to many Esterel owners about ordering them.

Thank you both. I will do some more trial runs just to see if there isn't a "knack".

Likely to investigate the gas struts for the future anyway!

Another recommendation for gas struts from me - my caravan has a pop up roof, which wasn't popping up. One of the struts had had it, and I sent them to SGS so that they could match them up. Never struggled since with it.
