Gave the caravan a good clean inside and out. Whilst we were doing that we fired up the gas heater and blowers. Wasnt really impressed with the heat after a couple of hours. Its a new to us van. Just wondered if you guys suplement your heating and if so what with?? Fan heater? Oil radiator etc? We have a young kid so arent keen on leaving gas on alk nigjt but nees some form of heating.

Oil filled radiator at the rear of the van when it's a bit colder. But that said we rarely even have the main heating on at nighttime, as we just jump in our thick sleeping bags and then the duvet over us.

ayrstu - you never mentioned the type of van you have. Our heating in the van gas/electric is more than enough. We only have an extra heater for the awning.
If you have blown air heating do not switch this on until the gas/electric has heated up the van. The blow air only circulates what is there, so if its cold it circulates cold.

Sorry its a bailey discovery mid 90s. That might be where the problems lies then i switched the blowers on more or less straight away on low setting.

If it's a mid 90s discovery you probably cannot run the heating without the fan but you do have a choice of low or auto I think. Low restricts the heating to 1000W when on electric and auto allows it to use 2000W on high speed and 1000W on low speed. It will change between high and low depending on how near it is to the thermostat temperature setting.

There is a thermostat in the controller which you can turn up. At night we used to keep ours on minimum and that was fine. We had a 1999 Bailey Ranger 510/4.

That blow air heating was fine because there were only 2 vents. One very close to the heater blowing itno the body of the van and one in the bathroom at the back.

On our new van, a 2010 Bailey 520/4, we did have the option of running the heating without the fan and that was much better than with. However, the heating was never very effective in that van due, I believe, to there being several vents all at some distance fron the heater. Some of the ducting went under the floor and lost a lot of heat to outside.
