I've just noticed our caravan have little splashes of rust colour over the sides & roof. I've tried normal caravan Fenwicks cleaner - nothing happened. Then tried greased lightning and some of the smaller splashes have come off but still left with stubborn marks. Worried how much I can rub in one spot with greased lightning? What else does anyone suggest as I've heard of Muc Off and also Silky cream cleaner.

Very lightly rub with a little t-cut and then polish up. Had a similar problem last year after my very considerate neighbour  decided to paint his fence and I was left with fence paint splashes on one side of my van.

I can still hear him saying "it's okay, it's water based it'll just wash off".

was worried about T-cut in case it was too abrasive as been told caravan paint is thinner than car.

One caravan place has said Muc off would do it and another has said that the best cleaner they have is Silky cream cleaner in a tub. Don't want to waste my money if they dont work. Think I have some original t cut for cars. Was thinking of applying a good coat of greased lighting over most of van after hopefully removing the rusty marks.

I would get a new bottle of t-cut as it is a lot thinner in consistency than the older stuff.

Yes the paint is thinner, that is why you have to be gentle with it.

I wouldn't use T cut myself. It works by removing the outer surface of the paint. Most polishes do but T cut does it more. If it is fence paint it should come off with soapy water. If not try a standard polish first before T cut.

Ideally you need to understand what it is. Tar deposits for example should come off with thinners/white spirit.

millermicm, regarding fence paint, car shampoo diluted or neat, Aldi caravan cleaner, Aldi black streak remover or a very good polish would not removed the marks. The ONLY thing that would take it off was T-cut, and I will repeat used very gently.
Then van areas give a coat of good quality polish.

has anyone been burning tires near you ,we once had a car that suffered from this ,it turned out there had been a fire at a nearby scrap yard before we bought it .the smoke contained lots of bits of wafer thin bits of metal from within the tyres that were burning .the only solution was to sell the car .as the dealer would not accept responsibility the car was a 3 month old demo when purchased .

not aware if tyres been burnt near by. tried muc off amd didn't work. going to wash van as normal with fenwicks then have a go with silky next weekend.

some spots with very gentle scraping with a finger nail removed part of it then some rubbing removed the rest.

Worry is can't really do all the roof if can't get on it.

if you have managed to remove it like that then its definitely not rust ,i am going to hazard a guess that one of your neighbours has been spraying a fence with red cedar preservative and its been carried on the wind on to your van .
if you have a good car shop near you get some "black spot and tar " remover that should shift it or even neat petrol will .dont rub to hard though as you will take off your paint

Well going to try a few things this weekend as some marks just not coming off:-

thinking of trying :- white spirit, meth spirit, silky cream cleaner, muc off, fenwicks caravan cleaner (neat), car tar remover (Autoglym) and another go with greased lightning

moving away from trying t cut and petrol.

Any thoughts which of all the above would be best but not affect the paint?

I wouldn't try T-Cut.

It'll leave you with nothing to do for the rest of the weekend.

Sorry was my reply a bit too subtle for you? I'll put a couple of in next time. But Mr Caravan himself (bluexpo97) gave you a 'what actually works' solution and the fact that you seemed to ignore him led me to think that you might actually want to spend your weekend wasting your time.
