We are going to the New England caravan club site in Dumfries and Galloway, would like a over night stop around Carlisle. Any ideas?

If you don't want to go too far from the motorway there is a caravan site attached to Tebay services. It is about junction 38.
Also Lowther is about 2 miles south of Penrith at j40.

Tebay is also the best motorway services in Britain, It is privately run rather than a chain

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

I'd recommend trout beck head CC site inbetween Keswick and Penrith, 15 mins of the m6 and a cracking site for an overnight stop IMO

There is also Hoddom Castle at near Ecclefechan, its within 10 mins off M6/M74 junct 19, great site in castle grounds, great showers, bar, restaurant, golf course. New England Bay is a couple of hours drive away. x

The Camping Club site in Moffat is less than 2 miles from the M74.

We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

That is too far north for going to New England Bay. There is also a Cl at Lochmaben run by Mrs Sampson that is a good easily addessed stopover for the A/M74

We have stayed at a small site at Gretna a few times that is fine and less that a mile from your route.
