We have been happy with the seasonal site that we have been on for the last 3 years and knew that it had recently been sold.

Then an invoice arrived last Thursday from the new owners. They had actually purchased the site on 31st January but had left it until 10 days before the start of the new season to inform us of the new terms and conditions, which were a lot more restrictive than those of the previous owners. Now, eg. awnings cannot be left up if the caravan is unoccupied and only one dog is allowed per unit.

We have been lucky. We only paid a deposit of £100 to secure the pitch and, today, had the time to find an alternative site. But I feel sorry for others who may want to move but have, eg, already paid for the site for next year or haven't got the time to find an alternative.

Most of all, though, I feel really annoyed that the new owners appear to be almost holding the existing caravan owners to ransom by not giving them adequate notice of the changes - hardly good customer service!!

Pleased you got sorted with an alternative site billieloid. This is a worry I have, that you don't get enough notice of changes. Up to now the site I'm on is just right for us but my friends are having problems with the new owners on there site, one of the changes on their site is price - it has gone up by over £300 for the season. The season has been lengthened but they don't want to use the van until end of December and neither does a lot of the other people on site. They were all quite happy with end of October but to charge an extra £300 for 2 months that nobody wants is a bit much. Any chance of you naming the site?

This is normally the prelude the site changing over to mainly statics as the prices will increase and restrictions increase even more to make seasonal tourers move on.

I know there used to be a condition that any site with statics had to have an area for Touring Vans as well, but I am sure that condition was dropped a few years back and now sites can be all statics.

This happened with Rosneath Castle Caravan Park about 7 years back and now the nearest touring sites to us are Balloch and Luss.

Other touring sites in this area appear to be going down the road of lodges and touring, rather than statics.

Yes Marilyn, the site is Upper Carr at Pickering. It have been taken over by the owners of the Flower of May (Scarborough).

When my hubby phoned them to tell them that we would be leaving Upper Carr, he was told that the new conditions would not be coming into effect this season and that the wrong letter had been sent out!! Is this a case of the power of the customer or are the new owners just very inefficient - I understand that we aren't the only seasonals to have left.

We are still waiting to hear if we are going to get our deposit back without a fight.
