Following on from the "suggestions - where to go" thread, why don't folks use their caravan showers? ok, it is probably understandable if you have children or have a wet room style combined loo and shower, but otherwise, why not? Using CLs or CSs with no facilities opens up so many more (and most importantly to us) cheaper sites. EHU is a must though.
Contrary to what appears to be the generally held belief, using a modern caravan shower will not cause damp.
I think it depends on your facilities, we've always had separate shower and me and the kids will shower in the van. Hubby wouldn't use shower in last van as bathroom was tiny, but latest van is much bigger. He will only shower in the van when on a multi service pitch. If I had a wet room i would use shower block, I couldn't be bothered with all that wiping down afterwards.
Always use ours. Never used a facility in the last 30 years. See no point in buying a van with a shower if you don't use it. Never had any damp around the shower. Ours is as good as the power shower at home.
Because they are to small, not enough room to swing a cat or duck, the pressure is to low, they run out of hot water to soon, and there is a free power shower 50 yards away with unlimited hot water and loads of space
If you haven't got this available, or you are Using CLs or CSs with no facilities then of course the shower to use is the one in the van.
Plus if site showers are available the shower unit in the van is a waste of valuable space.
What makes me laugh is those who go to the site shower with every bit of clothing they own including coats 2 bags wellingtons ect, you name it, then take 20 mins just to undress again before they even start their shower. we have all been there ,standing waiting in line wondering whats going on ( no showers running but all cubicles full???
and then another 20mins to put it all back on again to go back to the van to put another set of clean clothes on
Then i think why dont you use the shower in your van ha ha?????
Rant over
We never used our shower in our last van as it was toilet / shower combined and a curtain. Walls were vinyl covered and I think could cause damp problems. Our new(ish) caravan has a seperate shower with plastic walls and a folding door. We use this one all the time.
Fred.
With my family it depends on the good old british weather. Even in the summer the weather can be bad and my wife and girls don't like walking in mud/rain to a shower block that is often full of mud and grass.
I've never used the shower in the van as I'd rather have a nice long shower in a block without fear of water running out. 40L of aqua roll doesn't seem to go far in our family!
The wife and kids might have a quick shower in the van if they don't fancy venturing outside.
Our last unit was a folding camper and so we had to use the site showers, but we used the rest of the FC facilities like the toilet and the sink for the dishes.
Our new to us van has a proper shower and we will be using that.
We have always thought that site facilities were aimed at Campers, like the dish washing area, toilets and showers and we have never used them if we had our own.
We only use sites with decent showers, and have no problems/hang ups about using them.
So for us the caravan shower is a total waste of valuable space.
Lots more for than against so far. What I was really trying to get at is that some folk won't use no facility CLs/CSs, they don't know what they are missing imo.
