Put an old pair of trainers on a ladder then the ladder won't mark the sides, also helps to keep it steady and not slip about. Use a long handled brush or a mop to clean the roof, like MM said.
I wash mine like this, and use car wash and wax, saves a lot of trouble!

I think continental vans have stronger roofs in order to withstand the weight of snow, which isn't usually a problem in England. Given the recent weather here, perhaps UK manufacturers should consider making their vans amphibious!

Bailey vans are supposed to support the weight of a car according to some of thier previous advertising! This must be true as we are on a seasonal pitch an in march when it reopens the guys in the 2 baileys next to us are stood on the roof cleaning it whilst i am messing with the ladder to clean the roof of my abbey

It is not easy to clean the roof.
We bought one of those ladders and didnt get on with it.
We use an ordinary step ladder or sometimes a longer one that we put towels around the top and lean it on the van. A long brush and a good quality shampoo then poor or spray some bobby dazzler on we don't polish it this seems to work for us.
We don't have our van stored at home so we need to take water with us as well.
Of course it depends on your interpretation of "bear the weight of".It is probably unlikely that any caravan will collapse if you walk on it but will it affect it's long term watertight integrity?
I suspect that on many a few years old it would and would seriously dent any caravan I have ever had.
A new test rig is a very different thing and I am not sure what Bailey are trying to prove.
