Right having now found out what I'm allowed to tow can anyone reccomend a good starter caravan for around a £1000 that's my maximum needs to be 1200kg or less
Are you wanting to buy privately or through a dealer? How many berths do you need? What layout do you like? Do you want a fixed bed? Bunks? Fixed singles? End Bathroom? End kitchen? If your budget is £1000, you are looking at older caravans - which tend to be lighter anyway, so there's a whole world of possibilities out there :-) Is your budget just to be spent on the caravan, or are you also needing it to cover awning/hitchlocks/electric cables/step/wheel lock/aqua roll/wastehog .....?
My mom and dad had an ellidis tornado years ago double bed that became a dining table at one end bunks at the other the kitchen was down the side and toilet was in the rear
I'm not fussy on the layout aslong as its usable and clean
I'm just enquiring as to are there any preferred makes or models that would better suit a first time buyer
When I was looking for my first caravan last year I wasn't worried about make or model, look for one that has the layout you prefer, is within your price range, is in good condition and most importantly is free of damp. It took me 6 mths to find a suitable caravan, and even so I have now changed it because when using it I discovered the layout wasn't really what I was after. I bought the first one privately and the second one from a small dealership and both have been excellent.

No, not really. As Grampian said, you are going to be limited by your price, so if you don't care about layout, it will be simply a matter of going to see practically everything you can find that's the right weight. Just make sure you take your damp meter with you, use your eyes and nose, and take nothing on trust, as it may well take you a while to find a van that isn't damp.
Most people seem to change their first caravan because they realise the layout doesn't suit them. We did that after a couple of years' ownership. We are now looking at changing our second caravan after less than a year for exactly the same reason - it can be hard to get right, so do think about the practicalities of how and where you will be using it.
Have a read Here on the ukcampsite's own info sheets, and Here for the Caravan Club's info sheets, and Here for the info from the Camping and Caravanning Club. Somewhere in amongst that is pretty much everything you need :-)
Billyboy if you search on this forum using "Swift Corniche" , and searching "all forums" and "all years" you will get a goof few threads to read through and see if that answers some questions
Not sure I can link to another caravan website but if you google "caravan specifications" you will see top of non sponsored links is a site that lists almost all caravan specs that you can search
