Boss at work has a tin tent and has said, if you're in an area where tv reception through your ariel is poor, he said to try going through a satellite dish.
He says just use an old dish on a piece of scaff bar (or similar), and an old viewing card for the box and you get all the freeview channels that way...
You can get camping kits for freesat. I have one £30 from LIDL on one of their offers.
Seems some of the staff were buying them and flogging them on ebay for almost double.
I struck lucky and just happened onto a store with a manager? Said yeah we have some out back. Lad said nah all sold. But he went and pointed them out.
First of all the terrestrial tv signals in the UK are digital now and are at full power, if you have a modern caravan aerial not one of those silly round ones you will have no problems getting tv channels just remember you will have to retune the tv to the region that you are in. On the other hand should you choose sat tv then remember the dish must have a clear line of sight to the satellite otherwise you will not get a signal and remember that as of now the current satellites are being replaced and if your receiver cannot be tuned into the new ones your receiver will become useless. Also the weather has a profound effect on satellite signals be it from the download to your receiver or upload to the satellite. Digital signals as far as I know are virtually free from interferrence (except for the roll out of 4g internet signals but you can buy filters to address that) at home we have the aerial in the loft so the signals can go through roof materials etc.
I have the saucer aerial on my van for freeview through a panasonic led/hd tv...noticed in some areas that freeview was patchy or non existent so we purchased a portable satellite system , one in a plastic case, with different types of mounts. Not used it in the van yet as it's on storage but have tested both at work and at home and it's very good.lots of channels including bbc hd and all the freesat channels.
As i said before those silly round aerials which are the status 330 are useless what you require is a status 550 a directional aerial we have one and get the tv channels no problem another item to get is a digital signal finder sold on the popular auction site for about £10 it's one of those where the leds light up the stronger the signal is, and is NOT a satellite signal finder, if when you find the strongest signal and you know for certain that some of the channels are missing when you tune your tv in just turn the aerial round 180 degrees.

No problems with our silly round one since the digital switchover. Works better than the aerial on the house.
And me Dave. Flying saucer on roof and have no problems normally. On the odd occasion that it hasn't worked I just plug into the tv hookup on the electric post at most cc sites.

you can unplug your Sky box and take that with you if you're using a dish.
Just take a picture of the set up before you unplug, that way you know where everything goes when you get back.
yes not a problem.i have even rang sky from the caravan when we had a problem and they have repaired the card over the phone, you just give the card. number and your address.did not ask where we were,or where the box was positioned.most free to view channels are available.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
We take our sky box with us but pack it away around 2000hrs on the last day. Our old van had one of the round aerials on top and we must have been one of the unlucky one has we could not get a signal. We ended up nipping to Argos and got sn indoor aerial http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-1428744-10294381?url=http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1070929.htm
Never had a problem.
To your original question. sat dish old digi box and card will get you free to air channels
