Hi every one, had our new coachman caravan 565 vip four one month only, we went away for the first time last week & when we got home I noticed 3 of the 4 corner cappings on the roof to side rail had started to lift away ( coming up stuck) from the side rail ! Not impressed.
Rang dealer , sent photos & was told all four cappings will be replaced under warranty when I don't know.
Doesn't give me much confidence in a product costing £30,000 & the things falling apart already.

Ian.

Then on the other side of the coin there's this post.

I must admit we only kept our VIP for a year then got rid of it, it had been bought new.

I can't quite think where / what you're talking about, could you post a picture.

Sorry to hear this Ian and I completely understand your frustration. We bought a brand new Swift in 2018 and had a sting of warranty issues which was most annoying for a new caravan. I was told at the time that sadly, this is quite normal for new caravans and seems to be the case across all makes.

Whilst it was frustrating at the time and a shockingly poor showing from the caravan manufacturer to have so many issues in a new van, everything was sorted out under warranty and we are now very happy with the caravan. It was just a long and frustrating process of going back and forward to the dealer (hundreds of miles away) to get everything fixed.

I hope you get things sorted out soon and without too much disruption.

Sounds to my like another case of the customer being used as the company's "quality control department". This seems to be the way with all too many companies lately. It also shows another example of deteriorating build quality of caravans in general, and it makes me wonder how many of today's caravans will still be going strong when they are nearly 30 years old like ours.

Best Regards,
Colin

Get a date from the dealer when they will do the repair as in the meantime you cannot use the caravan. If the date is a couple of months in the future, advise them that under CRA 2015 you will be rejecting the caravan and will be requesting compensation for lost holidays as you do not agree with waiting several months. hey may then agree to do the fix a lot quicker.
I would strongly suggest having a word with Which Legal Services as phone call is free. We got caught in a similar way and dealer kept stringing us along . Eventually 11 months later we had to reject the caravan due to more and more faults coming to light.

We've had 3 Coachman VIPs now, one used and 2 new, and had only a couple of minor issues between them which were sorted at their first services under warranty (not worth taking back to dealer before then) - a loose window blind and an unstuck plastic panel, as I recall. I guess either we've been lucky or you've been unlucky - but I wouldn't be happy if we'd had your issues either.

Hi Ian
I have just read your post re roof cap on your VIP 565. Like you I am experiencing the same problem after my first outing. Can you advise what was replaced, was it the plastic cap only, or do they replace the mastic like material underneath? Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Ian,
Should have mentioned that I bought my van in May so would assume that it was in the same production run as yours. This would suggest that there is a fault with the part or lack of attention to detail by workers.

Wondering if faulty or incorrect sealant was used at the Time. It isn't good enough.

Now on my second year with Caravelair Alba. No defects. Zero. Nothing. This is the last caravan I will ever need to buy. If you want a well made caravan buy foreign I would.
