Hello everyone. I have an unusual request. Has anyone seen a caravan converted so that the front part of the caravan is as a caravan but the rear half is a flat bed for carrying a motorcycle? I have heard that apparently one has been made. Essentially as far as I can ascertain the front half literally just allows for two persons to sleep in it and the rear carries either one of two motorcycles. I have looked around on the net but can't find what I'm looking for...any assistance gratefully appreciated..

The problem with using a caravan chassis could be the rear chassis rails are not designed to carry lots of weight.

May need to add strengthening rails.

Or use an older caravan with a stronger/heavier steel chassis.

Be somewhat tail heavy and not very stable. A large fifth wheeler would be better suited with the axle(s) on the rear end..........Mick.

As suggested a US built 'toy hauler'(ie for carrying your toys like motorcycles or quadbikes)is what you are after but probably not viable price wise for importing & conversion for use in the UK/Europe unless you are happy to spend what is required. You would need a heavy 4x4 to tow one. One here

You would be better off converting a 4w horse box trailer and using fold up caravan beds in the area where the MC would travel.

With the kitchen area to the front, you could make up a neat wee unit using the innards of a caravan.

There was one at the NEC last week, can't remember the manufacturer but it looked handy enough. Proper rail inside for full size tourer if you wanted and all the other bits around it. I can't remember if it had a toilet/shower or not. I'll have a look at our show guide later and see if I can remember who made it.

The bike fits inside and the whole back of the van pulls down.
Nice vans, but pricey.

Ah yes, another one is Knaus Deseo Transport Plus. With these you do share the caravan with the the bikes or quadbike though. Available in the UK here

The English Caravan Company make what they call a Toy Hauler that they claim can carry a motorbike - more details here

Also the Stimson Multipod might be suitable though no mention on the website of whether it could take a motorbike.

It will need to be certified to be used to comply with requirements for third party insurance. Also it must be remembered that the inside fittings are what keeps a caravan together including floor strength.
