Please see below extract of email received from my MEP on the subject of caravan MOTs.

A majority of MEPs voted to exclude light trailers and tractor trailers from testing, but unfortunately caravans up to a size of 2000kg will be included. My Lib Dem colleague, Phil Bennion MEP, is a substitute member of the Transport Committee and asked for a split vote to remove the reference to caravans in the compromise created during the Transport Committee negotiations. Mr Bennion has concerns regarding the testing of caravans and medium trailers over 2000kg, and previously proposed the amendment for excluding trailers up to 3500kg in the scope of the legislation.

The European Parliament’s position on the roadworthiness package will now be negotiated with the European Council to agree on a compromised text before going to a final vote in the Parliament next year. This means there is still room for negotiations to exclude caravans and medium trailers from testing if there is enough support amongst the Council.

If I'm reading this correctly isn't it ironic that probably the most unroadworthy trailers to grace our roads are to be exempt from this new mot(revenue raiser)Some of these agricultural trailers are no different to Artic trailers which do require mot's.Problem is we all know the European Farmers(especially the French) will kick off if it was bought into Euro law and the EU wouldn't want to upset them would they.

If I'm reading it correctly, it means that the larger 'Airstream' caravans will also be exempt as they have an MTPLM in excess of 2000Kgs?
