How old is it? Only asking because ours looked “drab” in the previous MH, but the plastic was nearly 30 years old.
I only use an anti bac spray & old tea towel, to clean but not scour the surface as the plastic is less robust than the ‘porcelain’ loo at home. There’ll be many other techniques, I’m sure.
As Fiona mentioned, the bowl is plastic not ceramic like a domestic loo (unless you have one of the rare ceramic models!), so is susceptible to easily being damaged by rough/abrasive treatment (even a too stiff toilet brush!) and or harsh (domestic) chemicals (strong limescale/stain removers etc.), and as already mentioned the plastic can 'yellow' with age/sun exposure.
If age/sun related yellowing then there is little you can do, there are products on the market that claim to revive yellowed plastic, but AFAIK, none are proven to be effective, and you risk damaging the bowl to the point of needing a very expensive replacement!
Mine's 6 years old and still looks as good as new (and yes, it IS well and 'fully' used!), but it is only kept that way by using Elsan fluid in the flush tank to reduce soiling/stains 'sticking', it also seems to stop any limescale building up, and cleaned occasionally with Fenwicks WASTE PIPE & TANK CLEANER diluted to it's general purpose all hard surface sanitising/cleaning strength, and wiped with usually nothing more than a handful of soft toilet paper (which goes into the waste tank).
Remember the caravan toilet is a much more complex mix of vulnerable materials than a domestic loo, what you put in the bowl also ends up in the waste tank which is a mix of various types of plastic, rubber and metal components, corrosive (acidic/alkaline - limescale remover, bleach etc.) materials may harm them. Be particularly careful with the rubber seal between the bowl and the tank, which also seals the tank when the blade is closed.
Thetford market specific caravan/MH toilet bowl cleaning products that are safe, I've never tried them, but I'm not a great fan of their other chemicals! Dometic also do a specific toilet bowl cleaner, again never tried.
I've found most Fenwicks products work well for me, and they are easily obtained, and as with the WASTE PIPE & TANK CLEANER, it's a multi purpose product that cleans out waste pipes, cleans and sanitises waste tanks (both toilet and grey water), and dilutes down to use as a general purpose surface cleaner/sanitiser (even suitable for the fridge!), so only one product bottle to carry/store.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I use the Thetford toilet cleaner specifically for the toilet bowl. It's very good. Just pour it round the bowl at the top and leave it for approx 20mins and rinse. Perfect!
