I have just read that the EU is to pass a law, which means that ALL caravans will have to pass an MOT.
However trailers up to 2000kgs will be exempt from the law.
I think this will make a lot of people feel like giving up with their caravans.
I know what you mean, but how come they are not imposing this on trailers up to 2000kg, which after all is heavier than a lot of caravans.
Our Abbey Spectrum is 1200kg all up weight.
A caravan is actually classified as a trailer so ALL caravans won't have to have an MOT test if it's below 2000 kgs. It may help if you post the link so people can read it for themselves as sometimes the information can be inaccurate. The fact of the matter is that a caravan doesn't have a registration plate the same as a car does so the Police cannot detect whether a caravan in tow has a current MOT certificate or not. This has been through parliament several times without any constructive action on the grounds that it would not be cost effective to introduce such a scheme. The police are already stretched to their limits now and the fact that there are only a minority of caravans on the road in comparison to vehicles the introduction of such a scheme would turn out to be a white elephant. You only have to look at the cost of the introduction of speed cameras and look where that's all ended.
hi tango, I do not know how to post a link, it is in the daily Mail, which I know isn't always accurate, but a few organisations have added their concerns at this.
I think the government are fighting this, but if the EU push the law through, we will have to comply.
The Daily Mail is notable among British tabloids for rejecting the standard red-top banner order to try to appear more upmarket and respectable, although it does sometimes go in for the full front-page picture or headline characteristic of the working class rags. It is also notorious for its frequent harassment of individuals, campaigns of hate directed at various minorities, and willfully deceiving and lying to its readers.
...the most time-efficient way to read the Daily Mail is to read the headline, the first paragraph, the last paragraph and just interpolate the rest from experience and imagination.
------------- I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
It's in the Daily Fail so take it with a HUGE pinch of salt, especially as they haven't done any research or read the actual press release from the EU which still says it is only a proposal.
What is a minority now? I think that the media it all tarred with the same brush. it is is just 'dog eat dog' and pity anybody that gets in the way.
Rubbish sells itself. The BBC isn't much better now.
