It feels like I am fast becoming the Queen of Stupid Questions! If I don't ask it's just going to niggle at me so here goes. On our old Musketeer we have the normal awning channel/rail around the edges of the van. Now, I know what that is for! But... I have been looking at porch awnings and, never having taken a great deal of notice of the side of the van until now when I came to measure it (another !) I notice that there are extra rails on the sides. What are these for?!
There is a rail which is level with the top of the door, split into two because it is literally level with the door frame so can't go right across, Also rails above both windows. All rails have a black rubber trim in them and are screwed/capped at either end. Are these meant to be used for something? Perhaps a wall-type awning for the top one, maybe sunshades of sorts for the windows? That's all I can imagine they would be...am feeling very confused! Last .
If nothing else, I might have given someone else a laugh. It is times like these that my husband despairs of me as I just have to know things, can't just accept that they are there and leave it at that!
Just been to look again (sad I know!) and the ones above the windows are all the way around, sides and front and back. So they may just be a part of the build/design?
Am I at least right with these? Google has NOT been my friend in this instance! Still, what on earth are the ones at door height for? They are on both sides too. Curiouser and curiouser.
Panels used to be made out of three pieces of aluminium and the rails simply tidied up the finish. Sadly they also leak along these rails.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Ah, I see. Thanks Bill.
Mercifully we seem to have the exception to the rule. Even the engineer we had round to service it was impressed! I think it has been well loved in its previous years which makes me determined to keep it that way.
We know there is damp in the door and will more than likely attempt to fettle a replacement next year. The little damp over the wheel arch we think was due to failed seal so we resealed that and it seems to be drying out little by little.
Thanks again anyway, I will sleep tonight! :)
I asked loads of (to me) stupid questions when I first got my liddle caravan, but they helped me to understand a lot of things, and there are so many genuine and helpful people on here. :) I wondered the same thing when I got my caravan as well!
