Do you use your caravan toilet like you use your loo at home or do you save it just for emergencies. I have banned 'No.2s' in ours but was wondering, do toilets smell yukky if you do use them? Are they really vile to empty? Am I just being a big prude?!
I mainly use mine for night time wee, occasionally it has been used for a poo in an emergency. Emptying is no problem, if there is just wee it comes out as a blue liquid, if there is poo in it the blue liquid is darker and cloudy. no smell other than the smell of the blue chemical

1) If its blowing a gale outside, raining cats'n dogs and the site facilities are 250 yards away and possibly closed for cleaning, is it an emergency?
2) If used with correct doses of good quality chemicals, doesn't smell.
Generally we only use ours in the evening for no 1 's only, but as said above if the weather is bad etc we will use it then, I would say I empty it once a week, plenty of blue and pink, more than normal because its there for a week.
Ours is generally emptied every two or three days, is mostly only used first thing in the morning and last thing at night, and use of onsite facilities is encouraged wherever possible, but if we are travelling around we just use it fully. Emptying it is no big deal - regardless of whatever goes in, there's only ever usually a blue chemical-smelling liquid comes out.- it's not scary, honest!
We use ours like we do at home but we do have a no poo rule. Saying that we take our van to the Download festival and there's no way I'm using the portaloos there so the no poo rule doesn't apply!
When we first got ours, (and coming from a tent and using a wee's only luggable loo) it was a case of wee's only simply because we were a bit put off by the whole thought of emptying it with 'lumps' in!!
Lol, but actually it's no big deal and its just sludge really, we use the organic elsan and it doesn't smell horrid.
Anyway, our new found confidence has enabled us to go to CS sites with no loo's, that have been fabulous out of the way places with great views and so worth using our loo!
Strictly number ones only and only during the night or first thing in the morning. Even then if we're close to the block, ill get up and go there before using my vans loo.
Each to their own though
