The best time will be when you see the one you want at the price you can afford. Prices may be lower later in the year when people have had their holiday but then again some people upgrade during the season but whatever you decide once you have bought one you will see another one just like yours but cheaper it's called sods law.
Whatever you end up doing try to take someone with you to point out the faults that you in your exitement may miss less chance of picking a duff one that way.
I have just bought me first caravan and it took me the best part of six months looking until the right one for me, at the right price, came along. Don't rush, wait until the right one for you comes along. And as Moppetsdad said if you not sure what to look for when you see a potential caravan take some along who can help you.

Hi...This is our first year with a caravan too, all the above advise is good stuff, we bought ours in March which I suppose is early and admittedly the people we bought it from were packing up so I think we got a real bargain, however that was'nt planned, we had done months and months of research and visits to shows, dealers, scoured the internet and viewed private sales, luckily the 3rd private veiwing is the one we went for and very pleased we are too, whole process from start to finish took about 5 months.
