Which do people prefer with an awning. To be sited on grass or on a hard standing, we are taking an awning with us this time we have always been put on grass, but we havent had an awning before so I may have to ring to ask to be moved to grass pitch if grass is a better place to be put when you have an awning....
We always prefer hardstanding especially when wet and also after they have cut the grass and you have to walk across grass to get to your pitch you always seem to pick up a load on your feet. We are quite happy with hardstanding in the awning and don't put down any groundsheet. We're quite happy with that under our feet but it depends how you use your awning. You're obviously experienced campers so know what hardstanding is like - only you can know whether whether you will be happy with that in the awning.
Depends on the site but occasionally you may find hardstanding pitches where you pitch the awning on the grass adjacent - We've never found a pitch like this ourselves but I'm sure they exist especially if the hardstanding is concrete.
If you do end up with the awning on hardstanding you will need a set of rock pegs of course.
We are off to scarborough C&CC. We may eat in the awning, but If another family member comes along it will be used with a bedroom attachment. I thought about the grass treading into the van too. Rock peg, must get some, thanks
its really up to you and the weather, but you do have to watch some of theses "hardstandings", I've stayed on a couple earlier this year where you need a Pnumatic Drill to get the rock pegs in as they were solid concrete bases under about 2 inches of scalpings!
Take a Hammer & lots of rock pegs if you go for hardstanding!
Grass feels nice under foot but can be wet under foot in a typical British summer (but not this year)! Hardstand usually much better drained so many less wet muddy feet but not good unless wearing crocs....
Also grass smells better. And is easier to hammer pegs into so it gets my vote
------------- Why am i doing this instead of camping??!!

Even with an awning?, isnt it hard under your feet?
Especially with an awning as you can kill the grass!!! You can always put a ground sheet down on the hardstanding. Have to say we have not used a proper awning for years. On the motorhome we have a wind out awning.

Grass is extremely hard to kill though... We spent a week on dry grass, it was corn coloured when we arrived... same as the grass around us. After a few heavy storms, it started to green up and by the end of the week, needed cutting.
The warden said he would just water where we had been with caravan and awning and all would be fine.
I've only ever spent one week on hardstanding as there wasn't an option, it was awful to walk on in the awning. I hated it.
So grass for me always if possible, and no groundsheet unless very wet and muddy.
