Hi, I have just bought a 1989 ABI Award Globestar 4 berth which is in excellent condition. I was just wondering is there any where i could find a manual for this caravan as there is a few things I am unsure of with charging the battery and using the electrics. I have scoured Google to find no help from ABI or Globestar. Thanks in advance :)
hiya, we brought an abi jubilee last year without the manual, i e-mailed abi caravans for one, they said for a fee of £15 they will send one out....worth a try..
I cant seem to find there website or email address. I have emailed ABI that deals with Holiday parks an Statics. Maybe they have moved on?? Thanks again :)
Electrics there's a panel in mine above the cooker with a switch you can turn the electrics to caravan. The battery automatically charges when its plugged into the mains.
Ours too is in fantastic condition and has been a great van over the last 4 years.
Ah thats great, yeah it was mainly the charging the battery, so when the mains are plugged in it will charge automatically? also wondered what the plug is for dangling down above the sink in the right hand corner, it has a socket just underneath it. Also one last thing, we tried the gas heater in there and it lights up but when you turn it up when looking through the little glass panel it stays the same or is it meant to stay low? Thanks :)
Hi Morph sorry I didn't see your answer yesterday.
Yes the battery should charge automatically when plugged into the mains.
Husband is photographing our right hand corner for you to compare against ours. There's a light and extractor fan above our sink, with a plug socket in the right hand corner.
Our heater doesn't adjust either, husband says he things it because the linkages are worn so its either on or off.
To keep warm we have an oil filled radiator that we plug in.
I assume its something the previous owners have put in it certainly looks newish. The socket looks as if it has moved so I assume its had a spur fitted off that.
Standard Globestar there are no power sockets rear of the kitchen. So socket in the kitchen area that you have shown, one in the front seating area and a socket under the drinks cabinet.
Nothing happens really lol, i might chase the cable back and see were it goes. I checked all the gas appliances the other day too, when firing up the water heater I lifted the seat up and smelt of gas, can this be normally the case if it has been sat for a while or should it be checked?

That's a bit of a mystery then, I admit I'm curious now.
Re: the gassy smell yes we have had a faint gassy smell before when taking a while to connect it all in the front locker.
Does the smell go after a while? We had a complete check on purchase just to be sure and always have a carbon monoxide detector in the van.
The only problem we have had with the van was the rear lights connections needing a good clean up and the water pump failing. As its an older style pump and we were in the middle of a 10 day break we ended up adapting a different pump. We are think of carrying a spare.
On checking with my husband he says he notices a gassy smell under the seat when you first turn the water heater on, it goes when the pilot light starts.
