I went to check on my caravan today only to find the toilet flush was going even though there was no power to it. (12v power off). I pressed the flush button on the top and it stopped, but now it will not flush. I have checked fuse which is ok and now have no idea why it won't work. Any ideas please?

As you went to your caravan and found that the 12 volt power switch was switched off but the toilet flush was functioning proves that there was power to it which means there is a leisure battery connected up. The battery was obviously left for a period of time before checking on your caravan so it could be that the battery is now flat thus why the toilet flush fails to operate. Even with a flat battery the fuse will still be okay.

The battery isn't flat, and the battery was switched off at the fuse box. When this is done the only thing that normally draws power from the battery is the alarm, nothing else works until fuse box is switched on and then the main power switch above the door.

The switch pad assemblies are notorious for getting water behind the touch pad membrane and upsetting or corroding both the switch and plug connections to the PCB on that and similar models. I would be tempted to have a look.

The toilet has a permanent 12 volt feed even if you have the system shut down. This is so it can still be used if needed whilst on a journey without switching everything back on. The circuit board is quite a common problem with damp as it is mounted inside top of tank.If you can dry it out or have to replace it waterproof it before fitting.

This must be just whilst hooked to the car. Because on its own, mine will not operate unless the 12v is switched on.

We were away last year and our thetford toilet flush stopped working, the impeller was seized even though I had it going two days before, I removed the impeller from the base but left the wires connected, placed it in a bowel of boiling water for a few minutes, pressed the flush a few times and it freed the impeller, however the fuse in the toilet cassette cupboard blew so I replaced that and everything was fine

All sorted now, not sure what was wrong but after waggling a few wires and cleaning a few connections it's back up and running again! Thanks everyone

So glad you got it fixed and cheaply too, also, thank you for returning with feedback to let us all know the outcome.

Fair enough. Though if you think about being laid up in storage for weeks/months, you usually want NOTHING 'live' of any sort to prevent battery drain. Maybe its a newer thing, or maybe mines wired different, or even wrong. But no 12v, no loo!
