What are we likely to forget, what are the things you add over time and take for granted on your current van but may not automatically be included with the new sale. For some reason I have a sense of unease about it, particularly as we are taking it away overnight directly from dealer to give it all a good test.
I recently swapped over. Unloaded the old van and stashed everything in the hall and kitchen. Picked up the new van and loaded everything into it. went away and realised I had forgot the handle for the aquaroll and the peg mallet
We emptied our van, took it to the dealer, and reloaded the new van as soon as we got back home. If doing the changeover at the dealer's, making up an inventory beforehand can be helpful.
One thing we left in the van was the fire extinguisher, because I had fitted this just inside the caravan exit door. I have now similarly fitted a new extinguisher to our current van. It does puzzle me that, whilst smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are fitted as standard, fitting a fire extinguisher is still up to the buyer.

Its well worth making a list and weighing everything as you take it out and subsequently putting it back in. We tend to refine this list when the van is emptied for service as its surprising how many 'that's a good idea' things get in the van and never used.
However when changing your van your personal allowance may well be different and therefore you could easily be over weight without realising and having the list will really make you think about what you carry around needlessly and the how much it is costing you in terms of fuel.
We are at this moment living in our lounge surounded by caravan Jumble!
We have threequarters emptied our caravan now, and still some more to do in the morning such as the front locker and bathroom and a few other bits and bobs and the memory foam mattresses I bought for the front singles need to come out and the original upholstry put back in.
The big question is do we hand in the EHU cable with the caravan, as it didnt come with one and we had to buy one as an extra, and payed the extra bit for a good long one?
Its suprising how much stuff you actually accumilate, half of what we have taken out will not be going back into the new caravan, we have had a right good sort out over the past couple of days and given a lot of spare stuff to our youngest daughter towards setting up her own camping gear.

Hi Julie - snap we are the same gear everywhere. Can't just put it all back in as its obvious we've acquired some tatt and excess over the years!! Step, Aquaroll handle are now on my list as we forgot the handle last trip fortunately next door lent us theirs! We also need to get a new fire extinguisher like you Bertie as we did the same and fitted it to caravan, so not worth removing it really.
We will be keeping our EHU lead, anything of use to us next time is coming with us. Buyer of our current van will be lucky as they will be getting a Reich mover and Protec cover (if dealer leaves them with the van that is) as we can't re-use them
Picking it up Saturday, I don't think you would get much for the cover and it all became leverage for the best negotiation as dealer says with the mover, it probably won't get them any more from the sale but it will sell quicker - that's probably because its list price when they sell will be top end anyway!! Someone will get a great fully serviced dry van
If you are buying a NEW caravan and a fault develops (ie Damp ) and it has to be returned to the factory, it will have to be completly emptied, including carpets and cushions. Imagine storing all that clutter for many weeks. We have had to do it twice now.
