From Lincoln to Nottingham, Tamworth,then take A5 to Shrewsbury, still follow A5 for Oswestry + Langollen, Corwen, then A494 Bala, Dolgellau, then A496 to Barmouth. Hope this helps, this avoids the Dinas.
The A458 from Welshpool and the A470 up north of Mallwyn are NOT, repeat NOT a problem for a modern car and caravan.
I did the A470 bit over the weekend and was slowed by the lorries.

That's the route I would be inclined to go with as well. My daughter used to live in Bala and when I visited once with the caravan that's the route I took from Tamworth but it's easy from Nottingham to Tamworth anyway. M1 to junction 4a ( A42 / M42) and then continue M42 to junction 10 ( A5 ) then continue A5 through Corwen etc.
I get onto the A5 from Wrexham and do exactly the same as above, that's the easiest way with a caravan. You come in through the back of Llangollen onto the A494.
Another vote for the A494 through Bala, if only because there's temporary traffic lights on the A470 at Cross Foxes due the road widening of the Brithdir Junction
hello good weather for your hols!.as you said do NOT go up dinas it is as bad going down! make your way to the A5 head for BALA straight thro bala past the lake
At the end of the road near dolgellou you turn right and just follow signs for Barmouth it takes you down the estury .we have been many times and it is a good road we tow a caravan if you are staying near to harlech you can always go to bala turn right to the resovour down the hill past trasfynedd heading for portmadoc then turn left twds barmouth check the maps but these are the best two ways ..forgive the spellings!
