Hi

we have a Compass 4 berth fixed bed.

I have read the different posts on tyre pressures, but i am still not sure how much air i should be putting into our caravan.

i checked the air pressure in the carasvan tyres and they read 42 PSI.

The information on the tyres gives 2 weights. max wweight 1500+ .then it says Max tyre pressure 66 PSI.

Should i be putting 66 PSI into our tyres?

We try to keep our weight down as much as possible when towing.

the heaviest thing we carry are our porch awning and gas bottle..

read all bumfff on tyre pressures but it still doesn't seem to get through my thicko skull.

i think i may need laymens/caveman/hammer and chizel language.

The 'Halfords' tyre inflator I have has a cut out device but it's far from accurate so I don't rely on it and only use it as a basic guide. It usually inflates to about 5-7 psi less so what I use is a professional tyre pressure gauge (shown in the link below) and always inflate to the pressures shown displayed on the gauge. If you happened to get stopped by the Police regarding a roadside check this is what they would use anyway so I always carry mine in the boot of the car for reference. Sorry I can't advise on the tyre pressures as I just inflate according to what is stated in my Coachman handbook.

they're proper tyres hymer.

they are those tyron type  tyres with the metal band. we have an allen key type bar in the caravan that must be used to remove the tyre.

i am scared to put more air in because i may be doing damage.

i appreciate all the responses, they have been a great help.

these are the numbers and dimensions i got off the tyres.

SIZE = 185 - R -14 - C

MPS = 320..................LOAD RANGE = D

850 kg. = 1874 lbs.......450 KPA.............. 66PSI

800 kg. = 1754 lbs........450 KPA.

(E27) 009032.

AND the most important figures are> DOT 13KM === (1107).

if i have read the last figure right i think my tyre is a 2007 tyre.

now you've confirmed that  the tyre are nearly 6 years old ARC, ( scary ) our first job will be to have new tyres fitted. (this week).

we go a little caravan site in barton upon humber ( the rancher ) and there is a tyre place down the road who will fit your tyres while you are on site.

sounds ok. anyone any experience of having tyres fitted on site?

i would like to thank everyone for all their help,agin. if it wasn't for you nice people putting us right we could have been riding around in an accident waiting to happen.  

i don't think i am the only caravanner who's worst nightmare/dreads the thought of having a puncture.
