We noticed a humming sound coming from the outside water pump. We weren't running any taps at the time. Looked at the pump switch and it was lit up ( only should light up when tap on). Can anyone tell us why this is happening. Hope I've explained it properly......

Mine does that when the barrel is almost empty. Fill it and it stops.

I find that sometimes the pressure drops slightly and the pump kicks in for a little bit, either a small leak or the pressure switch needs adjusting.

There was water in the barrel but maybe the pump wasn't in far enough. Have to check it next time.
Noticed your location as Highfield Farm. Is that Tunstall. That's where we are, first season. Love it apart from the strong winds.

Thanks lunarvenus we did notice the other week that the two clips holding the pump to van are getting loose. Wonder if that the problem. Where is the pressure switch so we can check that out.

Water pressure switch is under the seat in my van, if you google it you will find intructions on how to adjust it.
I always switch the pump off when I'm not using it just incase.

I would echo Lunarvenus if you have a pressurised system then there is a problem with the system not pressurising properly. This could be a water leak air getting into the system check your water heater drain plug is in tightly, could be your non-return valve needing replaced or you need to adjust your water pressure switch. These are usually located close to where the water comes into your van and also depends on what type of pump socket you have

Thats the one. We're on our 3rd season there. 1st season the awning blew down twice - bent poles, a few holes and general devastation and then last year we moved to the other field and so far everything is great as i think it's a bit more sheltered. I cannot remember my pitch number but I think it's 25 but as we only go down during the week I see very few people. Let me know your number and I'll keep an eye open for you. It really is a beautiful site though isn't it. We'll be there tomorrow until Wednesday, just a couple of days at a time as I have a 90 year old mother to take care of.

Sueiscamping

Is the water system pressurised or are the taps operated by micro switch?

RogerCo - Don't know doh. I just know when taps on water comes out lol. Husband may know but he's at work at mo. Will have to look in manual at the weekend.

Marilyn51. We are in the first field pitch 77 I think. We are the couple who's awning blow down, wasn't even up a week. We bought an awning off another couple on our field, so far so good. Husband has used dog tie out stakes as pegs, and extra poles and storm straps. We have also asked Andrew to move us when possible. I love this field though because of the views. But your field does look more sheltered.

Sueiscamping

Only that if the system is pressurised and your battery voltage falls below 10.5v then the pump will run continuous, your manual will explain more.

Hi Sue, I think you're 2 away from our first pitch - on the back fence with stunning views that you can enjoy when not holding on to your awning. The field will be great when the saplings grow but that could be 10/20 years yet. The other edge of that field is a little better but our field is def more sheltered.

Yes Marilyn I agree. We are very exposed where we are. Picked this pitch as it's very large (for the dogs). But the darned lovely sheep keep getting through fence and eating saplings lol. Am keeping an eye on the new field. Andrew working hard to get it finished bless him. We are only there at weekends but will be having a week there in August. Will keep a lookout for you. Thankyou everyone for the advice. Hope we can sort the problem out easily.......

next time the pump starts to run as you explained, try turning on your battery charger, and if it stops the pump from running the cause will be voltage drop, this will reduces the water pressure and will start the pump running
