The steel gas pipe that connects to the main gas feed has rotted away.
I struggled to get a piece of steel pipe to fit and used a piece of aluminium pipe.
There is a piece of flat metal which slips over the pipe and connects to a threaded pin is this an earth strap as now I have no ignition and when I switch on the green light comes on striaght away

This question is headed 'Cascade 2 water heater' which it cannot be because no steel pipes are used!
It could then be a gas fire as they use steel gas pipes and they do corrode, but, using aluminum pipe instead of steel is very, very wrong!
I would then strongly suggest you get an expert in to sort this problem out safely
