We are wanting to buy a caravan, our poor tent collection is feeling neglected...
We my husband and I think that our needs are best suited by a twin bed midbathroom arrangement.
We plan to store it abroad and use it for several months at a time. We think that we may need to ad air con to it for comfort for foreign travel when ever that will be .We have funds for a new caravan, but as we have never towed one would like to spend lees and buy second hand . Any recommendations please
Unless you have citizenship of an EU country you are now limited to 90days in 180. If you are going to store it abroad you might as well buy one abroad. I bought mine from Decuyper just over Belgian border only 50miles from Calais. Nice people to deal with & they speak fluent English. They are Hobby Fendt & Caravelair main dealers. All those makes do the layout you want.
What car do you have and all the weights would be useful, to work out what would be a safe tow.
You would have to stay in Switzerland for 90 days then you could go back to EU.

I am sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I know the 90 day rule applies to all Schengen countries which includes Switzerland, so you couldn’t use Switzerland after your 90 days in other EU countries. At the minute I think the people who are looking for somewhere to go after their 90 days in the Schengen zone are tending to go to Croatia, the Balkans or Morocco.
Once you’ve spent 90 days in the Schengen zone you must leave for at least 90 days before you’re allowed back again, so basically 90 days in any rolling 180 day period.
I presume you could drive to Croatia say taking a couple of weeks then stay there for a month or up to 90 days & you still have another 76 days in EU Schengen ? Or Romania & Bulgaria. You would need to check the rules at the time because Croatia has applied to join Schengen.
I don’t know how much you want to spend on a caravan but there are not that many UK insurance companies that insure caravans stored abroad. Towergate are one but they have recently hiked their premiums. One way is to have an older caravan & not bother with insurance which is perfectly legal as there is no requirement to insure a caravan in the UK.
Our car is a BMW3 series estate..
We are pondering the older, newer dilemma.. Hubby doesnt like thought of 28k investment being left abroad, but we keep dithering.
He was recently made redundant, so that decision was removed
Work issues, and increasing frailty with our oldies makes me want to go sooner rather than later.. look to take a career break1 year
perhaps one could visit Croatia for a few weeks, then fly back to uk for family reasons, stay in uk for number of weeks then fly back to Croatia ,to sit out 90 days then continue euro tour?
You can apply for a visa extension according to the Schengen website-for valid reasons. You need proof of income and health insurance and will have to pay fees.

You can’t get an extended visa unless you have an address in an EU country & the extended visa is for the country were you have an address not all of the EU. Ie for touring there is no way around the 90days in 180days rule apart from as described already. Croatia is not like southern Spain it is only really warm in summer. If you wanted to do a long summer trip in good weather I suppose you could head off about May in the direction of Croatia & end it in Spain in about Oct/Nov. Considerable amount of mileage though around 3500-4000mile round trip.
Do you have room to park a caravan at your home ? That would be cheaper than storing it abroad even with extra ferry cost & you would be able to get it serviced ok & insurance would not be any issue. I would not store mine abroad I would rather have it in my drive where I can see it.
I did ask for the weights of your car so that we can give safe tow advice, but as usual this information isn't forthcoming, there are many different versions of that car dating back to the 1980's, so we can't even have a guess at it.
The towing weights are worked out on 85% of the kerbweight of the car, not the max tow or total weight of car, as new caravan towers it is advisable to stick as close to this figure as possible. Assuming that the 1600 is the kerbweight this gives you an 85% weight of 1360kg this should be the mtplm of the caravan not the miro.

How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

Billy I'm not so sure about that.
My OH gets a French Property magazine and there is an article on how to get round it. Part of it is showing you have €1200 going in bank a month and less if you have property out there.
