Just after opinions really, wondering how many of us cook outside in the summer and with what. I am marginally stressing about cooking inside the van with regards to fat flying and cooking smells. I am also wondering whether it would be nicer to cook outside when/if it gets warmer. I have ruled a Cadac out as I am not sure it is practical for what our family eats. I had thought about getting a Campingaz stove. Or am I just being ridiculous? Any help/thoughts would be greatly appreciated, Sarah
We often use one of those camping burners that run on butane(comes in a black carry case and is flat so stores easily).
Gas is cheap and cooks quickly.
Or we have bbq's. But remember safety and never use either if these in awnings
Also nothing stopping you getting a small 2 ring electric hob and using that outside, would be ok for the awning too.
------------- Who needs travel agents,we have our static
We tend to cook outside when the weather allows for the main reason that its different to home , we have a cadac picnic chef that works really well the cooker in the van does get a fair share of use although for us the oven is a waste of space we use it for storage
We haven't had any problems regarding fat splashes and the van is really well ventilated so cooking smells don't linger for long
One camping gaz stove we tried was the small picnic BBQ it wasn't a success it was used a few times but it was a poor design didnt cook all that well and the gas cylinders were expensive in the end I gave it away

Thanks for posting. It makes me feel so much happier knowing that others have outdoor cooking arrangements too. I thought I was creating a problem where there isn't one. Phew! Sarah
Our last van was 33 years old and there was no signs of fat or cooking smells in it when we got her and as every trip we had in her was ranting we cooked inside all the time with the obligatory bacon buttes as a treat while away plus hubbies killer curries and there was no problem but I always had a window open and the caravan door was open to the awning all day long. Just a quick once over with a pack of kitchen wipes and all clean again no problem

It's nice to be important but its more important to be nice
We are a bit paranoid about cooking smells too. We BBQ a lot when weather permits and also we have a deep fat fryer for chips which we use outside. It's a lot cheaper than buying 5 portions of 'frites' when on a French campsite!
We also use Maggi chicken bags which eliminate splashs in the oven and make really tasty and succulent chicken.
We use the hob for pasta, potatoes ect.
Or eat out
All we do is have a microwave, toaster, kettle and george foreman in the awning, meets all our requirements.
Chicken breasts on George foreman etc or bbq food even, microwave for lots and lots, tinned peas and carrots in microwave there isn't much we can't do.
Of course ehu is needed, we don't do anything without ehu.
We've never cooked full meals inside any of our caravans Sarah, we've always used either a Beauclaire or recently a Cadac outside & had two Air cookers and two of those little single burner gas stoves which come in the blow moulded cases on tables inside the awning. We didn't want the cooking smells in the vans either.
Another thing we've got which is brilliant is an electric hob plate which Lidls sell, we only paid something silly for it and the thing's brilliant. I can't think what it's called but you have to use certain pans on it. It doesn't matter being electric because we only ever go to an EHU pitch anyway.
