We have a 1995 Abi Dawnstar which we've had for 4 years. Usually to heat up the hot water we do this by switching on the water heater panel, it heats up v quickly and lasts us about a day, we switch it off later and turn back on in the morning as the water needs reheating. Not a problem.

However on our last two trips the water has been permanently hot, almost scalding, and we don't know why. Even though we've pressed the normal water heater button off (green light goes off when we do this) the water is always hot.  We wonder if the gas supply is heating it constantly, but how? We thought the electricity supply heated the water but maybe we are wrong, our caravan manual doesn't help.  There are no other lights showing on the panel & we're not aware of pressing something else inadvertently.

Can anyone shed some light on this? Many thanks.

Sorry meant to say it's a Carver Cascade 2 model if that helps.

it's difficult to guess on such scant info but at a guess it's got mains electric heating as well as gas and the electric is now switched on so keeping it hot.
Switching off the 'green light' is switching off the gas heating, the mains electric is controlled by another switch generally with a red neon light

However, saying it is 'almost scalding' is a worry, are you saying the water is coming out of the taps with a lot of steam?

Thanks for replying.   Don't have much more info at present as posted this after we got back and van now in storage, don't have a great memory for recalling finer details but water is extremely hotter than our supply at home,  but can't recall the steam situation. Will look at the switches setup more closely when we are next in van, will also check online to see if we can get hold of a manual/instructions for the heating system, will be handy if anything goes wrong in the future.

It may not help you but in my Swift there are 4 gas taps. Fridge, Water Heater, Space Heater & Cooker. I have the gas taps for the water heater and fridge turned off as I usually use an electric hook up. It might be worth checking that you are not using both gas and electric to heat your water.

-------------
We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
