We have a 1999 Fleetwood Countryside, single axle caravan. it has been parked up on our drive for the last 2 years with just the occasional pull out of 5 yards and clean. We have just had a service on the caravan, engineer said overrun shaft does not move in or out. Can they be stripped down and cleaned? can not find any information to help me on internet.

Didn't you ask the engineer if he could fix it for you and how much it would cost for him to do it? I reckon he would be the best person to ask about this.

No,it was serviced at my house, not a lot of room and generally a bad day for all. He said he had taken them apart in the past, ground it down and put back together. I realy did not understand the system at all then, but a look on internet has given an idea of how it works - a little bit anyway.

Look on
www.al-ko.co.uk
You can see manuals for the fitting on there,so the stripping is just reverse.

Hitch up to car and drive forward / backward a few times (only 6 inch or so) with caravan brakes on. If that doesn't move it you'll probably need to take the whole assy to a press.

Just a quick update. Took out front bolt of stabilizer inserted a bar into hole and twisted, It moved with little effort. Hooked on to car and left caravan handbrake on, worked back and forth with car. After a fair bit of trying got a little bit of movement. Now i think it moves about 70mm.It is still not moving easy. Going to pack it with grease tommorrow and work it in a bit more. Tommorrows another day. Were have i heard that before.

I had two or three little nipples on mine that had to be filled with a grease gun. Don't know if that will help, mine was ok before, but a fair amount of grease went into those nipples!

just a note it is not really made to move in and out easy.the idea is you should just be able to push it in by hand (not easy) from the front and it should return slowly return by itself.if it goes in to easy then the damper is at fault and needs replacing.
