Just a quick question for you, My first outing in the Van next week, Just wondering if any one has an ideas of keeping the Clothes on the Coat Hangers,My two wardrobes are at the Back of the Van,So I am presuming there will be quite a bit of Movement.
Also I am Taking Cadac and A porch Awning with Quite Heavy poles, I have been advised to either put them in the Boot, Or over the Axle??
Also would you Fill the Fridge up for the Journey or wait till you get there to do the Shopping?? If the Majority say Fill the Fridge up?? Would you pre-cool the Fridge?? And if so, For how long??
I Have Towed the Van Before,but Mostly with Nothing loaded in it, So Just a little nervous!! But I am absolutely Buzzing and cant wait to get there and get set up!!
Cover your clothes rail with water pipe insulation. Your hangers should stay on.
I put heavy items such as the awning in the car boot, but if you put in the van definitely put them over the axle
We precool the items due to be put in the fridge and load it up before setting off. We use a couple of cool blocks to keep the fridge cool. I am unable to pre cool the fridge as no power on my storage site.

This is how i do poles over the axle with awning ,precool fridge ,fill fridge ,pipe lagging on rail and put the hangers on different ways to each other . have a good trip
Our last van the wardrobe was at the back, and everything used to fly off so we used pipe lagging and the hangers stayed put, the van we have now the wardrobe is in the middle and i wondered if it would be the same so as a test I didn't use lagging to see , the hangers didn't move. But lagging works a treat the hangers make their own little groove and stay still.

We're totally new to this and our wardrobe is at rear. I was thinking of putting clothes first time in a bag over axle or in car. Don't know but am i being over cautious or is it difficult to say?

I like the lagging idea and never thought of alternating the hangers, thanks Stu for posting.

A tip for a long journey (especially on ferry where you can't run the fridge) is to place a frozen plastic bottle of milk in the fridge, it will keep the rest cool and slowly be thawing for your cuppa when you get set up.
We tend to put clothes in a bag and carry in the car, Awning in the car, food we take enough for an evening meal and Breakfast then do a shop when we get there but any fresh/chilled we stick in cool bag with a few freezer blocks (stick these in the fridge when you get there as they help get the temp down quicker.
If they're falling off the hangers, rather than the hangers falling off the rail, you can get hangers with grippy stuff on the shoulders which holds the clothes on really well. I got mine in Charlies but most of the cheapy shops do them.
Bungee round wardrobe rail works for us . Don't put too much weight on it when travelling though - our si incrediably flimsy. Freeze ornge juice in cartonsand pack it before we go to keep fridge cool .
We don't bother with "lagging", "pipe insulation" etc...we just put the clothes on the coat hangers and they have never fallen off into a crumpled heap. We lay them on the bed for the journey. Plenty of time at the other end to hang them up!!!

As our van is in storage we pack our clothes into holdalls for the journey and food into a 12v cool box. Everything else - awning, chairs, aquaroll, wastehog, bedding,wind breaks, stays in the van.
I have travelled with items in the wardrobe but also lay the clothes on the front seats, takes no time to hang them up. I usually have lots of jeans for everyone and I've often wondered how the weight of these high up in the wardrobe would effect the caravan, my wardrobe is located slightly behind the axle. Maybe I'm being OTT, not sure.
We're tenters, but take clothes rails to hang our togs on in the spare sleeping pod (a.k.a walk-in wardrobe!).
I put all the clothes on hangers as I do the pre-camp ironing then pack them maybe 6-8 at a time into a zip-up dress bag. This keeps them all together and tidy ready for hanging up once we're pitched.
Obviously, we have to drape the filled clothes bags over the rest of our luggage as we travel but guess you 'vanners may find they can be hung up in wardrobes before you set off and the full bags will stop things falling off their hangers.
Awning and Poles aways in caravan over axle, never put them in boot at the extra weight in the back of the car just make the back of the car low, so front of caravan low, not the Best I wouldn't think. We put some clothes in boot if going for weekend, otherwise a suitcase in caravan lob done.
Remember to spread the weight between car and caravan, a towing weight is less than a carried weight.
You don't want the back of the car low and cause unsteady towing.
