Can anyone help me? I'm trying to drain the water and have managed to drain the water heater tank fairly easily. I have 2 other valves/drains (black with red stopper in) under the van offside but i cant for the life of me release the red stopper. When i filled it up the other day water was slowly leaking from these valves/drains. I'm completely new to all this and not entirely sure what i'm doing and fear breaking something....help, please!
Can you put your van details in the 'outfit' part of your profile to give replying members a head start.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Not 100% sure what these might be perhaps a pressure release. If you could a picture or two would be great help. Obvious question but have a hand book that may have some info for you if not try seeing if you can get a down load from the makers website.
I've just taken a picture but not sure how to post it...
the first time i tried to pull out the red stopper thing i ended up pulling the whole thing off!!
There are a few ways to do this and the easiest is to copy and paste the picture into the Post reply box, assuming that the picture is already on the internet somewhere!
The second method is to use the Add Imageicon above the message reply box in Internet Explorer or the image in Firefox.
When you click on the icon it will open a new window which looks like the one below.
If you know the web address of the picture insert it into the window in the box at the bottom.
Click on OK and the picture will appear in your post.
If the picture is on your hard disk. You will need to upload it to the internet before it can be put into a post.
There are a few sites that will allow you to store pictures on-line, most of the folks I know who do not use their own web space use http://www.photobucket.com/ which is very easy to use, from registration to first upload took me around 4 minutes. When you look through the pictures you have uploaded you will see that there are 3 boxes below the pictures which contain different forms of code. These are the codes you will need to place the pictures in either a post, your signature, or as an avatar.
Practice on these pages to perfect putting photos or clipart into your posts.
(The contents of this topic will be emptied from time to time to save on disc space.)
An alternative method and perhaps easier one is left click on the thumbnail in Photobucket to open the picture, right click on the picture and select copy, then paste it into the reply box using the Paste button. If the picture is bigger than the reply box then left click on it and drag one corner in until it fits. Best size for a picture in a post is around 500pixels wide, this will stop the pages from expanding out of shape with the rest of the site.

yes thats correct.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Yes as everyone else has said push the red "plug" in a wee bit and then push the collar around it in and hold in you will then be able to pull the red plug out. when refitting do the reverse but ensure the collar slides down the red plug to lock it in place. As per your original post you said there was a drip from these try taking out and refitting first and see if that works if not you may need to change to rubber "O" rings an easy job if not a bit fiddly.
Thanks for all the help and advice folks. Andy4x4 can you post a link to rubber 'o' rings you mentioned, i've a feeling i might be changing to them. My other question was do i need to open and drain from these pipes every time we prepare to tow or is it ok to just drain the water heater tank and leave others while winter?
Hi Nutkins you will be able to get the "O" rings from any caravan dealer I am not sure what size they are exactly, you could take one out and try a plumbers merchant or DIY store if you are not close to a caravan shop/dealer. A wee tip when refitting the red plugs after putting in new rings is to run a tiny bit of washing up liquid around the red plugs and they shall slide in easier and not risk damaging the new rings.
As for draining down you will be absolutely fine just draining down your heater tank during the season for traveling (open all your taps this helps the water drain down)e leave the ones under the van until putting away for the winter.
Don't do what I did I have an under slung water tank that holds about 90 lts forgot to drain it down before heading home one trip "thought she felt a bit heavy on the hills but bloody stable all the same"
