It is actually a hot water tank so when you are using the shower the hot water tank is being replenished with cold water thus making the hot water slightly cooler as you use it. We have a shower head with a lever on the top that shuts off the water rather than keep turning off the hot and cold water off and on each time which uses less water at a constant temperature. I not sure if the new caravan hot water system is operated like a combi-boiler as I believe they are now so my post is generated towards older caravans with a hot water tank.
