could anyone give me a rough idea of how much necessities for a caravan will weigh - eg aqua roll, waste water container, step, gas bottles, perhaps an awning etc

looking for a caravan to suit towing weight of our car, the unladen weight of some that we've seen and liked is fairly close to car manufacturer's towing weight guidelines, and i'm not sure how much allowance i should be giving for the extras that will need to be stored in the caravan

lots of thanks in advance

Perhaps some detailed spec of your car and rough guide on what you're after 'van wise, and someone might be able to suggest suitable options to consider.

thanks michael, that info's perfect, i'm sorry, i should have done a search before posting my question!

Paul - thanks for reply, we've got a petrol rover 45 hatchback, and max towing weight in handbook is 1000kg.  I have been given some really good suggestions for vans from a separate post

we are in a bit of a dilema to either get a cheap and cheerful older 4 berth that we should (hopefully) be able to tow with our current car or wait till our car has a major fault (which tbh will probably be sooner rather than later!) and we get a bigger car.  In the not too distant future we will hopefully need a 5 or 6 berth but would need a bigger car for that!

we are newbies at caravanning - will probably still use our tent a lot but tbh getting bit fed up with wet pack downs! and would be nice to extend our holidaying season a bit - current easter weather bit chilly in a tent for a 5 and 3 year old!

a general guide is the gross weight of caravan or MTPLM is 85% of your cars kerb weight to be safe on tow.some long term caravanners tow up to 100 %.
