Our new caravan (impulse buy at the NEC) is ready and waiting to be collected.......we have a long week-end booked off work for a trial run.........but our new car is still somewhere between here and Korea!!!!!!!!
Never mind, I've treated myself to a bit of retail therapy and bought new pans, mats, tray, tea towels; and bought "stock" for the new shower room and kitchen cupboards!
If anyone hapens to see a shiney white car on the open seas please can you tell it to swim faster!!!!!

We went with a Vauxhall Antara. I walk to work and the shops so our second car is barely used, so we could go for a beast as mpg isn't an issue for every day life. We liked our test drive, already own a Vauxhall and have a good relationship with the dealer so got a good deal. It's now due to arrive on 27th March and we have booked a slot on 28th to collect the van so that we can hopefully have Easter away. Towbar fitter is standing to attention ready to fit the towbar as soon as the car arrives.
And yes Chindley, buying dinky shampoo and toothpaste, washing up liquid, salt and pepper gave me the "fix" I needed.....for now!

I thought the recommended initial mileage was a thousand miles on all cars from new. That's what was stated in my Ford and Volvo handbooks anyway plus it was the same with the Kia Sorrento and Citroen Crosser. When components are new they need bedding in which the engine can create heat friction for the first several thousand miles and it states that if a trailer of any description is towed prior to this recommended mileage it will invalidate the vehicle warranty. So beware and read the booklet first otherwise the dealer could refuse to acknowledge any future problems you may have with the new vehicle.

He would have to prove you had been towing first but you are quite right. I wouldn't tow I with a new car.
Looks likeI'll be driving up to Scotland and back when the car finally arrives!!!!! I'll have to see if I can get the van towed to the site and leave it there for a month.

We had a similar car delivery problem so the dealer took the car to have the tow bar fitted, this was before the initial inspection by the dealer. As someone said how is any dealer going to know you towed a caravan in the first 500 miles, the Volkswagon dealer certainly did not suggest any wait to tow our caravan and we had said from the start that we wanted a car to two a van of that weight. Enjoy your new car and new caravan.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
Thanks everyone. There was an Antara waiting to be handed over when we were looking, the towbar had been fitted by the dealer. He knows we want a towbar. I've checked an online manual and there is no mention of not towing, yet I can see the reasoning behind the suggestion. If there is anything wrong with the car and we tow straight away how do we know the fault is not due to towing. And how do we stand with the warranty?
I shall make sure we read everything thoroughly before we tow. I don't want to damage my new car.
