I can currently get two cars and the caravan covered for £110.
For the last 20 years I have been with the AA, they have just sent a renewal of £223 which is rediculous have managed to get the AA down to £140 but if Mayday is worth it and the reviews are acceptable I will go to mayday as now a member of Caravan club having just purchased our first caravan
what are your expiriances with Mayday good or bad.
I assume it works in the same way where they will try and repair on the side of the road or do green flag get a local garage just to collect and take elsewhere
Green Flag or Mayday do get a lot of criticism for not doing many roadside repairs and just taking you to your destination.
Personally I would prefer that as I can get the car repaired by someone I trust rather than letting a cowboy in an AA uniform do it, especially as the AA and RAC will buy replacement parts from main agents and Halfords at inflated prices which you may not have needed.
Obviously, if you get transported home you save on the fuel and hanging around while they try to repair it too.
I got taken home on the back of a lorry from North to South Wales for the sake of a £5 hose which had burst. I was over the moon as it saved me close to £100 in fuel and I was able to sleep much of the way home.
Can't find a price for the AA - or even if they do specific 'Caravan cover'
Yet Maydays' 'Premium' is only £89!
Even if you added the CC, that's still only £130ish, way cheaper that the others.
Also, if they'd rather 'get you there', than to do a roadside repair, if you're a bit spanner handy, once you get to where ever, you may even be able to fix it yourself.
GReen flag / mayday brilliant read up on it i have two cars and a caravan have the full package me and the wife where ever we go have peace of mind. have used them and was very satiffied do it through caravan club
We used to change our breakdown cover every year as it was the only way to get a good price. I always found AA / RAC both a rip off when you came to renew. Much better to cancel and go with someone else to get a discount.
However, with have now been with Green Flag for a couple of years as their renewal was very reasonable. Never had to use them though !
i was with the AA for forty year until we got a caravan. No contest now green flag (mayday) via caravan club the AA would not recover a caravan unless it was hitched to the car at time of breakdown. well thats what they told me when i asked them. malc
had green flag via direct line insurance a few years ago ,had to use them twice ,once for a caravan blow out on the M5 ,quick efficient response job done in under a hour including fitting new tyre .
second time car only ,family holiday in norfolk i broke my arm they brought us to the door in north wales ,superb service .you do have to stipulate what level of cover you want though when taking out the insurance .
i now have top RAC cover including rescue/home start/recovery etc via N.F.U insurance and its bloody cheap to .in fact the package decreases in price yearly due to how they work .SUPERB service with your own personal assistant to answer any queries as well instead of a different voice every time .
We'll only be wanting Mayday for one car - mine, which is the towcar too, and I do a higher milage to and from work.
Her car just stays within the town here - to and from her work via kids school. So if she need rescued it won't take much to ring a relation / friend.
Still, which one?
R&R or Premium?.............. <img align="absmiddle" src="forum_images/smiley29.gif" width="17" alt="17"> How much difference is there between the two?
Adding the extra car to the premium costs us about £20 so well worth it!
I have just changed from the AA to Mayday. Despite being with the AA for 30 years the renewal quote was outrageous, especially when a new customer could get the same cover for half the price. So much for customer loyalty!
Despite the fact that the AA would match Mayday price, I changed on principal and the caravan specific cover.
