There have been previous threads on here with reference to Glossop Caravans but not very good feedback with referral to their customer services apparently. There is a list of UKCS threads especially this one in particular.
didnt buy a new one from them but a used one.....would never go there again!!!! they try pressuring you into buying a new one and after saying no on quiet a few times we looked at the used ones, saw one we like and bought it....was told everything was great no damp etc.....how VERY wrong....the gas fire didnt work (but was supposed to of been checked!!) so had to take it back to get it sorted at our expense and after only using it ONCE found there was damp on the side wall...which according to them happened once in our ownership!!!! Good luck...you will need it....

not bought from them myself but one of our 'vanning friends did and won't go back again, their customer / aftersales service leaves a lot to be desired
------------- no tin tent outings booked as yet ,just another cruise in Sept' booked so far
Likewise, we were pitched next to a Glossop caravans customer on his first time out with his brand new Coachman Caravan last September, and he was having loads of problems with it, things were missing, the mattress on the fixed bed was off another caravan, and did not fit propperly due to the original being found to be badly torn on handover, and he was constantly having to call them due to the water and heating system failing. It was obvious that this van had not been given a proper PDI before handover, and typical of the other posts regarding the dealership on UKCS.

Yes bought a new van off them Easter 2011 a coachman amara . Hand over was fine all main components demonstrated , water , gas , battery systems . All done efficiently with no problems however not so good with warranty issues found later . I found damp on the inside of the toilet cassette door , they denied it was damp even though my meter was showing off the scale . I gave up and traded it in at another dealership rather than deal with them again . It's only when things go wrong that you find out how good the dealers are or not as the case my be !
We have bought three caravans, all used, from Glossop and have had no problems.Their service department is very good. That's not to say all customers have been happy.
We bought two brand new caravans from Lowdhams as Glossop at the time didn't sell Swift. We originally thought Lowdhams were fine until we had problems. We will think twice before we go there again. On the other hand Lowdhams have many satisfied customers.
What I am trying to say is that most dealers are fine until problems arise.
Thanks everyone for your comments. I have already had a terrible ordeal with a dealer from north Wales, and hopefully things might be ok this time. My op was regarding the hand over,as this is my first new van. I have had written in my sale agreement and confirmed by e mail that all warranty and service work will be done by a mobile engineer I have used ( who is excellent by the way) .Due to myself being disabled and unable if required to be hitching up and driving up and down the motorway for warranty work. To be fair to Glossops they have been excellent regarding any questions and enquiries I have had. They have done a excellent deal regarding the new purchase. As people have said the proof is in the pudding when things go wrong, and hopefully that won't happen. Cheers
The first new caravan we bought we were novices and just listened to everything during handover and away we went.We had lots of niggling problems some of which we could have seen at first.
The second time when we went for our new caravan we were prepared. The handover took as long as was required. We checked everything.
Make sure all the blinds work without being stiff...ours were corrected whilst we were there
Make sure all the plugs are there..the inside tank plug was missing
A piece was missing off the blind on the roof light..
These are only minor things but can be annoying if you have to go back.
Don't be afraid of appearing fussy, everything should be spot on.I would make a list of what to check before you go.
I was looking used.
Prices are a bit inflated, they promised me they'd sort all the problems I found but never volunteered any info. If you don't know what you're looking for you'd in my opinion get a lemon.
Never felt comfortable and bought elsewhere. The van we bought had had issues in the past but was rectified. All was above board so we bought which was around £1500 cheaper than Glossop would have charged for the same van.
The prices they ask for vans which are obviously scrap are scandalous in my opinion.
Buyer beware..
Well i bought a caravan off glossops last year and i felt i had a great service, the handing over was first class.Yes i had to take it back for warranty issues but it was done professionally and on time, have i been one of the lucky ones i don't know but i am talking from my own experience here not other folks experiences.Would i use them again and MY truthful answer is yes i would
Johnshelley2 and Michael. Thank you for your help. As I have said, my original op was regarding the handover. I feel sorry for all of the people who have had problems, but I agree you could put any name as regarding dealers, and there will be unsatisfied customers.
I myself have been in that situation regarding another well known dealer, last year. As I have said, to date Glossop have been extremely helpful and have gone out of there way to help myself out regarding my disability . In regards of letting me use a mobile engineer regarding any work needed. ( if any) the salesperson who I won't name has been fantastic, and if it wasn't for himself I don't think I would be getting a new van, as every other dealer I tried at the NEC could not come near to Glossop..
Once again thank you all for your help. Cheers scoobz.
