we've never yet put up a full size awning, so apols if the answer to this would be glaringly obvious with a bit more experience! If our awning size is 975, will it make a big difference to fitting if I buy a size 13 (950-975) or a size 15 (975-1000)?
And where else should I be thinking of looking for second hand awnings, other then the usual on here, eBay, preloved and Gumtree - is there a used awning shop that I don't know about ...?
Thank you for any advice
You state a size 13 (950 - 975) and size 15 (975 - 1000) but what dimensions is a size 14? It seems rather odd that size 15 follows on from 13 so is there actually a size 14 and what size is it? Also what make of awning are you referring to as different manufacturers use different sizes in their sizes (cms)?
Sorry Tango - that's me typing ineptly. It should say a size 13 and size 14 in my original post. I had been searching eBay for "awning 975" which is the size quoted on the Isabella website for our van, and "awning 960" - the size listed on the Bradcot site, then realised other manufacturers use 13 and 14. I just wasn't sure whether it was better to go one way or the other!
The difference between 975 cms. and 960 cms. is 15 cms. which if you convert that to imperial measurement is only 6 inches. When you feed the awning through the rail you just equal the measurement out at the front and back which would only be around 3 inches at either end. It's always best to go slightly bigger than smaller because if you are unlevel ground the extra material will be an advantage and if it's not you can always pull the caravan up on ramps to take up the excess. So firstly you need to be absolutely sure what the awning rail measurement is from ground to ground before you can determine what size awning you need. The way I determined mine was in my Coachman handbook which the official awning size was 886 cms. so I bought a Dorema size 10 which is a 900 cms. which is slightly bigger (14 cms.) which fits perfectly on level ground.
The link that michael has posted shows how to measure for a full size awning correctly which is the 'ground to ground' measurement that I was referring to in my second post. By showing this, micheal has made it a bit more clearer exactly how to measure up for the right size awning and this is how the manufacturers do it so the official awning size should be in your corresponding handbook if you have one.
Yes, the question I was trying to resolve was if my awning measurement is 975, should I buy a Size 13 (measuring 950-975) or a 14 (measuring 975-1000). I'm assuming I'm better off going for the larger size and having too much fabric rather than the smaller size ..?

hi white rose, i would go for the size 14, as sometimes the ground is uneven so a little bit more fabric, saves alot of hassle.
good luck
Thank you - that makes sense! Ok, will go back to my ebay search and see what comes up ...

Have you tried Lowdhams at Crosland Moor, Huddersfield? They had a good bit of stock in last year when I was looking.
Does Lowdhams have used awnings? I thought they only had new stuff - that's helpful to know, will give them a ring and perhaps pop over for a nosy on Saturday.
