The countryside has gone to a new loving home,up on the isle of skye to be exact.Was gutted seeing her pull away hitched to another car but needs must.
We are at a crossroads now though,we loved our caravan and weekends and weeks away,but due to work commitments were lucky to get away 3 or 4 times a year and to be honest spending money on a caravan to sit and depreciate in a storage yard all year isnt good financial sense especially in this climate.
but as its the "close" season so to speak and the fact our pitch is paid until april we will take time to decide if a 6 berth will replace the countryside or not.
i ist hope the new owners love our van the way we did.

thanks beanpark if my work situation chnges then for sure ill have another for sure.its the thought of spending all the cash to get a nice van and it sits in the yard gathering moss and depreciating.

Whislt we were still at work we had VW campervans during the latter years of work. Eventually changes had to be made and have had various. But the campervan was brilliant as when we got enough hours off to spend away we went. So much easier
to do with it all in the VW. Just pack a few grubstakes and gone.
Now we are away for 10 weeks from May - mid July then again from Sept - mid Oct.. We used to use the VW a lot of just overnights, just travelled to the coastal camp sites or wherever you want.
looks like we are holding off a decision until next year now,and we know this decision will end up costing us more money,but at the moment buying another van just doesnt make sense.we have our storage pitch until april 4th so thats when we will finally make our mind up.

We had to sell our van as we needed a horse box and a bigger 4x4 to pull it,daughter moved on so no need for horse box,we didnt go back to a caravan or T/Tent which we had before but bought a new Vango Icarus 500 for the two of us,we love it.Just £100+ and 9 weeks camping later if we need to change there`s no thought,just buy another .
We did buy our caravan and `Dandy` from Kirkaldy Caravans,good guys but that was a few years ago.
We're in the same boat Fife-bloke, we decided it was best to advertise and sell ours at the end of this past season. It sold to the first couple to come and see it & without doubt they've bought themselves a lovely first van/outifit. It had been discussed before and we decided to hang on to it but we had to accept that we didn't need an expensive van sitting out on the drive dropping in value & only being used four weeks (two trips) a year. To be honest we have no plans to replace it but who knows what's around the corner workwise for me & healthwise for my lovely OH.
We're now completely lost because we've used the same Cornish site twice a year for over 20 years & have always had our pitch booked by the 1st week in November & now we don't know where to book. We're thinking of a static or cottage in Scotland next year & only need to research when it's best to go to avoid the midges. Perhaps you could answer that one for us.

Generally speaking its best to go before June and after September to avoid the dreaded Midge. You could maybe look at the East coast of Scotland as we tend to have significantly less of a Midge problem.

Thanks for that one VangoMan, it certainly does help. I wasn't fancying the period suggested by Lobey twixt Christmas and New year very much. We'll have to do some homework, read a few reviews and sort out where to go.
Now if it is homework you want to do and Midges are a problem for you, the I suggest you obtain a book called Midges in Scotland by George Hendry.
It is produced by Mercat Press, ISBN;- 1873644 612.
This excellent book explains why Midges are bad in some areas, but not in others, how to avoid them, the worst times of day, etc etc. It also gives you a better understanding of Midge Repellents, which ones work the best and why.
But also, please remember that of the 5 or 6 million people that prefer to live in this so called "Midge Infested Country" , we are not half as bothered by them as those south of the border appear to be.

You might want to take a look at the "East Neuk of Fife", its a collection of fishing villages of varying sizes. You will find great restaurants, friendly pubs and a lot more. Also near St Andrews and other larger towns.
Its a really nice part of Fife with some terrific beaches and lovely harbours.
Property is generally of high quality, I have used Owners Direct and Holiday Lettings but there are many companies who let property in this area..
