soooo, i pick up my new (to me) van in a couple of weeks, after its been serviced and a moover fitted. its a coachman amara 450/2 2006 and its fitted with a alko stabiliser hitch, as my old van did'nt have one, and i have a nissan terrano with the spare wheel fitted to the rear door, i dont know if there will be enough clearance, to lift the handle enough to hitch up with the spare wheel in place.
does anyone have (or can measure) the length of the handle, from the front of the hitch to the end of the handle please, as i dont want to start faffing around when i pick up the van, as there will be enough other stuff try to remember
cheers

I had the same problem with my Freelander and overcame it as Birdman did. It just meant that we had to put the dog in the back after the caravan was hitched but that was no great hangup.------------- David

People with 4x4 vehicles that have problems with the Alko top lever making contact with the rear opening door usually fit one of these types of handles which Alko have designed specially for this purpose.

thanks guys , and thanks to birdman for the measurement, i will measure that tomorow.
yes i concidered opening the door ,then hitching up, but i think the jockey wheel handle may me in the way of closing the door again,
i have seen the shorter handles but 34 quid ,, sheesh.?.
i recon i may remove the spare wheel from the back door before i go to pick the van up then take it fron there
cheers stu

Stu,
we've got one of the replacement handles - yours for £15 +pp if you want it.
Not designed to be left on when travelling, but rather useful for rear door spares!

I have the terrano & yes it does touch the spare wheel so I bought the extendable handle which meant undoing the 2 screws to remove the existing handle which is very easy. Failing that remove the spare wheel or modify the bracket so the spare wheel bracket to raise the wheel about 50 mm.
