Im think of getting a solar charger for the battery when in storage, the battery is normally fully charged when leaving a site except if i use the mover, is 1.5amp enough, would a 4.5amp overcharge the battery
Either would do the job but during the winter, the hours of sunlight are reduced. A sprinkling of snow on the solar panel renders it dark all day.
The 1.5 amp works out at around 18 watts so should be more than enough to keep the battery topped up if nothing is being used, but better to go with the biggest you can so that during the summer months you won't be reliant on EHU.
When you consider the savings that can be made by booking onto a CL with no EHU against booking onto a site with EHU the solar panel will pay for itself in a matter of weeks if not days.
The 4.5 amp panel you refer to works out at about 50 watts which is the same as the one I have on my caravan roof. We can easily get a week in the summer with no EHU and still have plenty of power in reserve.
Either of these would need a charging regulator which would stop it over charging the battery.
While the panel can be mounted inside in the window, because the caravan windows are tinted, the amount of light hitting the panel will be seriously reduced. It is like giving it a pair of sunglasses. In order to get any where near the true output of the panel, it needs to be mounted on the roof where is has sunlight on it from dawn till dusk.
Sorry its 4.5 watt not 4.5 amp, the small ones you put on the dash on a car, can they overcharge the battery, i do like the idea of the larger panels so i dont need ehu,
