A friend of mine has just bought another motorhome and on speaking to her she mentioned that they changed to this one, which is a Frankia, because it has more insulation and they tend to be warmer. This got me thinking as to whether this applies to caravans. Are there any makes which have more insallation than others? How would you be able to tell?
Thanks in advance Twurly
------------- You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only option!
My Stealth has one of the highest grades of insulation, unfortunatly they didn't seal round the fridge so it's like an icebox depending which way the wind blows.
Camping in our new Bailey Orion 460-5 has been interesting in the colder weather. Our previous van, a Sterling Europa 540, was nice and warm but suffered from a few draughts from floor vents which leads to cold feet. The Bailey has a whale blown air heater which i expected to be inferior to the usual Truma arrangement. But because the Bailey is better insulated the heater keeps the van very warm and spends more time off than on which saves energy. Left on 500w electric setting overnight it makes very little noise and we suffer less from draughts and cold feet! So our feeling is the insulation standard is more inmportant than the heater - if you are buying new or nearly new then get a van with grade 3 insulation and you will have 'the warmest caravan!'
------------- Why am i doing this instead of camping??!!
Were off Wednesday and I am wondering if we will be warm enough (Sprite Alpine 4). Tested to heating on Gas and Electric and it was like a sauna in there!
Today i have had it running on electric on the driveway and it seems to be warm enough. However I will take an extra blow heater 'just in case'!
I guess the proof will be in the pudding! Will we wake up warm on Thursday!
I think the Alutech caravans were supposed to be warmest when they first came out but most new vans have level 3 insulation. However, check out the amount of insulation contained within an airstream - if I had a spare £60k........!
My Caravan has got Alde heating. The first time I used one with this heating in I wasn't quite sire how to use it and a 11pm we were sweating as the temperature was 30c. I know now how to use it and it is almost better than my heating at home.
