Hobby's that is or any other continental for that matter. We sold our Elddis & were going to give up caravanning all together then hubby said he would like to try going seasonal as he thinks it would be less stress. He then says he'd like to get someone to take a hobby down on to a site for him. Well I've rang around so many sites I've lost count, & they've all said no bar a few. It seems unless you live up north or Wales your chances of siting one are slim. The sites I did find wanted roughly 2k for a season. I know of a perfect site at a reasonable cost in Devon & have been plenty of times so know the owner well but she won't budge on this. It's almost like if you mention the word hobby to a campsite owner they act like someone's shoved dog poo under their nose I've heard all the excuses under the sun & am close to giving up on looking now I think I'm just going to have to nag hubby to get another English van but with a layout that allows 4 bunks in the back. Wish me luck!

It may be because the door is on the wrong side, hence the awning would be the wrong side etc. It would have to be pitched nose in to keep awning on same side as other vans, however therefore possibly against fire regulations as they cannot get to the A frame and whip the van out in the event of a fire.

Cheers Ratty

Really a stigma against them here to as their looked at as gypsy vans,Its a shame as i would have one in an instant but like ratty said the door is on the wrong side for our campsites.

It's a shame cause they're great looking vans. I do understand the implications but I don't understand stand the owners attitudes when they are mentioned. Just a polite no & quick explanation would suffice but some are quite abrupt about it.....hence the dog poo under the nose comment haha.

If you can find a CC site with a spare seasonal pitch they will take it, or there are many more that will do store and pitch for you so that when you arrive the van will be it ting on a pitch waiting for you.

I have a European van and have never in the 10 years I ave had it ever been asked to pitch it in any other way than the other vans on the ite are pitched.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Thanks Andy I haven't been to freshwater's for about 13yrs. Something very odd happened there. We went to bed on the Friday night & the morning papers the next day said it was Sunday. We're still scratching our heads to this day wondering what happened to Saturday maybe it was the eclipse

Oh I didn't realise the cc do seasonal pitches. We have membership with them. I thought it was just storage they did. Do they allow you to keep your awnings up?

No if you are on site the caravan stays there but everything inside the van. No doubt if you leave it for a couple of days you could by arrangement with the wardens leave it set up but it would be at their discretion.

As an owner for over 8 years, I can honestly say I have never had any trouble at any site anywhere.  I have pitched nose-in (lets face it, thats the same as UK vans as the lounge is at the back!!), nose-out and transverse  (my favourite position [oooh eerrr missus!!]).  If I go to a site where they don't allow transverse pitching, I drive away to somewhere else.  As a benefit, most of my caravanning is on the Continent anyway, so the door is on the 'correct' side for most of the time.

As has been said, it's a pity that in the UK they have a 'Pikey' association, but remember they make more caravans than ALL the UK manufactures put together.  Mine is better made than most (if not all) UK vans, and as it's the 2.5metre version, the extra width along the total length of the van makes a tremendous difference.

IMO, the new range look better than a lot of UK vans, and as for the 700, that is something that is out of this world.

Del

glad to hear you are going to keep caravanning. We really like foreign vans. Why not look for a uk spec (so door on right side) Burstner, Dethleffs or Hymer. They appear on ebay on a regular basis.

Who bought your van in the end? Was it the guy wanting to export it to NZ?

We have seen some lovely 8' wide Dethleffs for sale which have the door on the "English" side. They might be worth a look.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Apart from freshwater (which hubby didn't like) they are all too far away. We want to keep within 2hrs of south glos. I've found a site near seaton, quite basic but you can walk to beach easily which looks ok. It's a good price too. The only concern is the narrow access. We'd have to go down & check it out as it looks quite small on street view.
Savanne I see you've found a van then I put mine up for sale on the Thursday & it was sold by the Monday. A couple from north Devon bought it for 10k so I got exactly what I was after.
