Still being new to caravanning, were unsure what to do, but do know we have 2 weeks to make a decision. So wondering if you experienced and knowledgable people may be able to advise / help :)

We have a Burstner 2002 and love it.

When we arrived at site in Wales at end of July, 2 windows had cracks in them. 1 being the bathroom so the double skin saved it. The other the bottom bunk window. Both temporarily held with black strong duct tape. This has held it secure to France and back since.
It looks like the wing mirror of a van hit them, it's a dead straight line, at the perfect height. Just so pleased the windows stick out if you know what I mean, or it would have hit the van.

Now, do we make an insurance claim for the windows? Or will it pump the premium up to a crazy sum like car insurance does?

Burstner had a recall on the windows of this van, and it runs out end of this month. Our van apparently has not been done, We have been told by the guys doing this they will not do the bathroom as its not included, but the bottom bunk one they will. It's supposed to be greatly reduced, something like at about 20% of the actual cost. The recall is a strength thing in each corner or a replacement window. The strengthens thing is free, but the replacement we pay towards. We want to have the main front big window replaced and this will be approx £200.

My dilemma is if I claim off the insurance and get them to replace both broken windows, will it pump up the insurance loads, and do I need to have reported it to them within a certain time? Or should I have reported to the police? Will it matter we don't know exactly where it happened....... It was between home and Dolgamedd.
Shall I report it now?

If we don't claim, then I think I'll get the recall to do the bottom window.

Any experience / Advice greatly appreciated.

Greetings,

The only advice I can give arises out of a claim I made following an accident that I had two years ago.
As a result of the claim I lost ALL of the no claims bonus I had accrued since the year dot.
As a result my following years premium nearly doubled and this year it still is far higher than it was before.
Just ask your Insurance Co how much they would charge assuming that you make a claim. Then work it out.

I had several windows replaced in my 2006 Bursnter S500TS. The offer, IIRC, is actually from Polyplastics, the window manufacturer - to supply windows at 65% off the retail price, fitted free.

We have had a couple of claims in the past, it did not seem to make a big difference to the premium, as you don't accrue as much NCD as on car policies. There is of course an excess-depending on what it is it may be viable to claim.

As soon as you ask your insurance company it will be noted on your file, so even if you do not claim expect next years premium to rise. So either claim or keep quite.
