Help/advice please.
Some of my awning poles are showing signs of going rusty, after only a couple of years. The ones affected are the 'inner' ones from a telescopic pair. It must be the electroplating is only a micron thick (or thin!!) these days, and has been worn away when erecting/dismantling the awning. I must admit that I wish I had spent the extra and gone for carbon poles.
I've just 'wintered' the 'van and rubbed the poles with an oily rag, but this will not be suitable when they are in use - oil will be transferred from pole to hand to awning, which will become very unsightly very quickly. Is there some product available to protect the poles in a 'clean' way??

Silicone spray, used during the summer should reduce corrosion and will aid assembly of the sections

A swipe with beeswax works for us . It doesn't matter if it gets on the awning either .
useful for sticking doors etc . You can usually get it at markets or form honey makers v. It's wonderful stuff and nenevr goes off .

Use ACF50, we use it to protect airplanes and motorbikes
"Designed to provide maximum protection under severe conditions. Its formulation provides both high and low temperature performance, increasing the service life of critical components"
Google ACF50 for suppliers - I think you may be able to get it from Halfords

Thanks everyone for the tips.
Have to admit that I have never heard of ACF50. I have investigated it, and it appears to me to be a 'stay-wet' product, which would make it not suitable for my purpose - am I correct??

I've have to say I've never checked if it stays greasy, once a component is slathered in it we leave it alone! although it will certainly be no worse that WD40 and works way better
PS
I've just checked 2 alloy parts that were treated last week, they are dry

Thanks again Mark - will probably go this route next spring. Poles are OK for the winter covered in 3 in 1 oil.
