I currently have a Powrtouch 4 x 4 AWD mover, which is about 3 years old, I use it to get the van from the end of our driveway where I have to disconnect from the car and up our drive on two tight turns to its parking place.

When I purchased it, our roadway was fairly quiet, apart from parked cars opposite and now due to extra houses being built near our road, the road outside our house has become quite busy with traffic and when crouching down to engage and disengage the manual rollers I have traffic flying by very close to me which is too close for compfort.

I rang Powrtouch to ask if I could pay for their engineer to fit the automatic engage system, but was told now they have the new Evolution mover with option auto engage they are no longer offering the upgrade to the older model unless it it a back order or already ordered from and existing dealer order.

I asked if they would take mine in part exchange if I upgraded to their new Evolution model but they no longer do this and suggested sticking it on E bay.

I called my local caravan dealer where I purchased our current van new last year (they moved the mover to the new van from our previous one) and nthey have quoted £2365 for the new Powertouch AWD 4x4 with auto engage and have offered me £500 part exchange on my current AWD mover. I was hoping for a better PX as my mover cost me around £2000 only 3 years ago, I found Powrtouch no help (although I find their product first class) they just want me to buy a new mover, when they do have an upgrade for mine.

It seems I will have to sell mine on E bay, does anyone have any idea if it would fetch more than the £500 offered by my local dealer in PX if I sell it?  although their fitted price seems on the new one seems higher than I would have expected?

Powertouch are now owned by Truma. See here for prices on self engaging movers.

Could you not use a "Powrbar" to link both sides together enabling you to operate it from the kerb side? If Powrtouch no longer supply them you could make one from a length of square tube with some 8mm holes. They used to be about £100 which is extortionate for a couple of meters of box section.

I think the same as DaveCoaches, if you cannot do it yourself any small engineers would be able to knock it up for you at a fraction of the price of a new mover. If you are happy with your mover otherwise, i would not change it.

I would simply buy two "high visibility" vests and get your partner standing in the road to slow the traffic down for the handful of seconds it takes to set the movers.

Undoubtedly you have to "stop" the traffic when you actually start the van manoeuvring so I cant see the problem other than making yourself more obvious.

Secondly you have the older well proven mover, why invest another nearly £2K for as yet an unproven product?

£500 seems quite reasonable really. Looking on ebay you wont get more than £400 for a single axle. If you advertise it well you might stretch to £600, but remember the fees eat into the price.

i have a 3yr old powrtouch HD (drives 2 wheels of a twin axle) in the garage which i removed from our recent write-off. We now have a single axle van.
I called powrtouch a few months back and they offered me a part ex on my electronics to trade in for a single axle "brain and remote" for £200....so i could use my exsisting motors......although i think that offer has gone now....so they do seem to want to help keep you as a customer.

A long shot...but is it worth shopping around to see if someone has any old stock of the actuator kit...i would start by contacting ebay sellers as they may jump at the chance to offload something that would normally only sell with the motors.

Just a thought....how about aquiring some road cones.....that was the only way we could make it safe when we moved our van off the drive.

£500 seems a fair offer. Mine has the bar on so I can operate from any side but it is just a square bar that connects the two sides and would not cost much to make. If you want I'll post you a pic of it on here.

If you are interested in a cross actuating bar, I'll gladly measure the dimensions of mine tomorrow. I know it's in three sections which clamp together but this is simply to enable it to be adjustable to fit different widths of caravan. If yo plan on keeping your caravan then you could do it with a solid length although it may be difficult to get on without dropping the unit from one side but you only fir it once. Bear in mind you need to have two, one for each axle.

Hi Dave Coaches and Birdman 101

Having a bar made may be a good idea, I will have a look round E bay / Preloved etc to see if I can obtain a actuator kit first.

JTQU you have a good point, I spoke to another dealer not too far from us the other day to get a fitted price on the auto engage AWD new Evolution and he suggested getting the Evolution manual version as he told me they were getting problems with some units auto engage failing.

I agree, plus a folding traffic cone or hazard warning sign something like

this:

£2365 for the new Powertouch AWD 4x4 This to dear they are about £500 cheaper than this. They are not offering you anything.!! for your old mover just inflated the price of the new one.

Good Luck

Shop Around.....

I have an actuator bar lying in my garage which is from a Truma motor mover. We had it taken off as unable to engage both motors at same time due to arthritis.
